March calendar

March Calendar

  • National School Social Work Week, March 5-10
    •  March 5-10 is National School Social Work Week. Social workers in FCPS help to prevent social, emotional, and behavioral factors from affecting a student's ability to perform at their best. Their primary goal is to remove barriers that prevent a student from fulfilling their academic potential. Social workers are assigned to every school and center in the school system. Most social workers serve one to two sites. Our LCES Social Worker is Ms. De'Stanye Swittenberg. You can reach her via email at

dswittenberg@fcps.edu to send your thanks or to ask for help.

March is Music in Our Schools Month

Music Notes

March is “Music in Our Schools Month”! Everyday in Music class students sing, dance, create, play instruments and learn about the world of Music. Each week this month, we will highlight some specific activities we are doing in Music.

In Kindergarten, students are practicing playing on a steady beat using our classroom instruments. They are starting to learn songs that go with their Three Piggy Opera. First grade students have been listening and responding to Jazz music and learning to identify some Jazz musicians. They even did some “scat” singing. They illustrated a scene to go with Louis Armstrong’s song “What a Wonderful World.”

You may now order the 22-23 school yearbook for $15.00. Orders due by April 19.

You may now place an order for our Lees Corner 2022-2023 Yearbook. The cost is $15.00 and orders are due by April 19th. Information on how to order is included in this attached flier.

Fun Fit Fridays will Resume on March 10th.

Fun Fit Fridays Resume on March 10

“Fun-Fit- Fridays (or F3)” will resume on Friday, March 10 from 8:10-8:35 AM and run through June 2. If you participated in the fall, you do not need to submit a permission form again. If you did not participate in the fall and would like to participate in the spring, please complete the attached form and return it to your child's teacher by Wednesday, March 8.

Fun Fit Fridays is a token reward program. Each student-participant is issued a running card to keep track of his or her laps and total miles over the course of the year.  Students run/walk as many laps as possible in the 25-minute time period every Friday morning. After a student completes one lap around the track, an adult marks the student’s card. Each completed running card totals 30 laps, or 5 miles. Students receive a toe token each time they complete 5 miles. After 25, 50, 75, and 100 miles, students receive a number token representing the miles completed.

This is an excellent opportunity for your children to meet new friends, enjoy the benefits of running/walking, and develop an appreciation for fitness. We hope this program builds self-confidence and improves fitness levels among our students and within the community. Everyone is welcome to join us!
