Hello Shrevewood Families,
Yesterday was Read Across America Day, which was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading. Next week at Shrevewood, we look forward to celebrating together as a school community with a Spirit Week (see details below).
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Joshua DeSmyter, Principal
Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal
A message from our Math Specialist, Dr. Price:
Here at Shrevewood we want to share and extend the things we are learning at school with fun activities at home. This is part 5 of the “Math at Home!” series. I hope the information shared about websites, activities and/or games from FCPS and the FCPS math department were useful. I look forward to seeing you at our “Celebration of Learning” night on April 25, 2023 so you can see what the students have been learning in math.

Above is our SOL schedule for this Spring. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school on a day when they are testing. If you have any questions about SOL testing, please contact Katie Vandawalker at kmvandawalke@fcps.edu.
We will host our Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, April 13th, from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm. More details to come!
Use this Sign Up to schedule a registration appointment for your soon to be Wise Owl. If you have a neighbor or friend with a rising Kindergarten student, please pass along this information!
Today is International Social-Emotional Learning Day! This is a chance to celebrate the work your child is doing to build important life skills like setting goals, handling big feelings, being kind to others, and solving problems. We also want to thank you for supporting your child’s social-emotional development. You are your child’s first and most important teacher, and we appreciate all you’re doing for them. In elementary school, kindergarten-sixth grade students' phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off during the school day. Students are prohibited from using phones, smart watches, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms, the cafeteria, and at recess unless there is a true emergency. The full SR&R can be accessed online at: https://www.fcps.edu/srr
In case you missed it in FCPS This Week, the school division shared updates on the following topics:
- STEM and Early Childhood Education
- Upcoming Instructional Career Fair
- Alumni Offer Advice to Students
Read FCPS This Week to learn more about these topics. If you are not already receiving the weekly newsletter, sign up today.
We will be recognizing and honoring our students' birthdays monthly. For the safety of all students and staff in our building and to limit the amount of classroom disruptions, please do not send in food or toys for your child's birthday.
