We are so lucky to have so many amazing staff members at Poplar Tree!
Each year FCPS recognizes employees for their excellence and this year at Poplar Tree, a number of our staff members were nominated by fellow colleagues or community members. What's even more exciting is that THREE of them were named Chantilly Pyramid Outstanding Employees!

A Note About Ramadan for Our Poplar Tree Families
Ramadan, one of the holiest times on the Islamic calendar, begins on March 22nd. If your child needs an alternative space for lunch or prayer during this time, we will accommodate them. Please email their school counselor and they will make arrangements: Mrs. Girellini (Grades 2,3,4- smgirellini@fcps.edu ) or Ms. Mertens (Grades K, 1, 5 and 6- eemertens@fcps.edu ).
The following tests will be given in March:

Grades 3-6 SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Screener March 1-21* *homeroom teacher can provide information on specific date/time

Grade 1 Naglieri (NNAT) March 7 @9 a.m.

Grade 5 Integrated Reading-Writing SOL Field Test March 14 @9 a.m.

Volunteers Needed for PTA Nominating Committee
The next school seems far away...we need your help for the 2023-24 PTA!
The PTA board transitions over late spring in preparation for the next school year and we need 3 VOLUNTEERS to serve on the nominating committee to help facilitate the process of electing the new board. Main duties include helping solicit PTA board nominees, collecting nomination applications, and helping to present nominees for election.
You can help ensure the continued success of the PTA by volunteering for this committee with a minimal time commitment.
No previous PTA leadership experience is necessary
Here is a rough timeline of upcoming related activities:
* March 9: Elect the nominating committee; Q&A with PTA Board
* April 13: Present nominees for 2023-24 PTA Board
* May 11: Hold a general membership election
All members of the nominating committee must be PTA members.

Planning is underway for our 2023 Auction!
We have a fun spring planned full of author visits, an assembly, field trips, a game night, a fun run, and our annual block party - and we need your help to ensure we meet our fundraising goals to make all of this happen for our school community!
- If you have the time to assist the auction team in soliciting items for the auction, any help would be appreciated. It is very low-key - we have a letter template you can send to businesses that are already pre-populated on a list!
- There's SO MUCH TALENT in our community... If you're a woodworker and would like to donate a furniture piece, or you make clothing, or you have a lawn service, or would like to donate some time to help landscape, and the list goes ON and ON!! This would be a GREAT opportunity to showcase your talents!
- If you own a local business and are able to donate a gift card or service, please contact us! Our community would love to support your business via social media as a thank-you for your donation. Please email a logo along with your donation so we can support your business just as you have supported our school.

Our auction kick-off will be an in-person class basket auction at the PTES Block Party on May 19th! We are so grateful to our room parents and parents for organizing the class baskets which are always a big hit.
