Next Week Is Read Across America Week!
The week of February 28-March 4 is Read Across America and we’re excited to celebrate! Here is the breakdown of events:
Monday, February 28: Sara and Chris read aloud a fun book on the morning news!
Tuesday, March 1: Read My Shirt Day—Encourage students to wear a ‘readable’ shirt. It might have a favorite character on it or they might create one themselves with a favorite book quote.
Wednesday, March 2: Buddy Reading—Students can bring in a stuffed animal to read to during the day
Thursday, March 3: Flashlight Funday—Students bring in a flashlight and teachers turn off the lights for some fun reading in the dark
Friday, March 4: Family Read Aloud—Students are home today, so encourage families to read together
In the library, we will also have a ‘mirror and windows’ display of books to encourage our readers to find texts that reflect their culture and experiences as well as those that give them a view into a culture other than their own.
