Franklin MS Weekly Update - February 24

bus driver appreciation day

This week our students supported us with celebrating Bus Driver Appreciation Day by gifting our amazing bus drivers with a token of our appreciation. We are so grateful for all our bus drivers do get our students to and from school safely.

Franklin Families and Students,

Good afternoon! I hope that you had a good week and that you were able to enjoy some of the beautiful weather on Thursday. I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight two exciting opportunities for our students during the month of March.

On March 14, we are looking forward to hosting a full-day visit from the award-winning author, Jennifer A. Nielsen. This opportunity for our students is made possible by the generous support of the Franklin MS PTA. All students will have the opportunity to hear Ms. Nielsen speak about her journey to become an author and her process for creating the stories our students enjoy reading. Ms. Nielsen will also be available for book signings and you can learn more about her books here. We encourage you to visit Ms. Nielsen’s webpage and to look for more information as we get closer to the event!

We are also thrilled to announce that our Student Council Association (SCA) will host our annual after-school roller skating event on Thursday, March 15.  Skating is open to all students and is free of charge. In order to skate, students must turn in a signed permission slip by Friday, March 3. Please click here for a permission slip. Students can also pick up a permission slip in the cafeteria during their lunch, in the main office, or on Schoology. There will be a DJ and the event is always a blast! Skating will conclude at 4:30 PM for late bus dismissal. Students must use the skates provided by Skatetime. Please e-mail Mrs. Mollé with any questions. We hope to see your student there.

The staff at Franklin MS continues to be grateful for the strong school-home partnerships that are in place in our community. Thank you for all that you and your family do each day to support your students.

With Gratitude,

Dustin Wright

Principal

Laptop Care

This week, students reviewed what it means to be responsible for their FCPS laptop, including what they access and how they take care of the device itself. Please take a moment to check in with your student to ensure they have the correct ID card and that nothing is broken on their laptop. If they need a new ID card or something needs to be fixed, they can visit Mr. Jones in 106A for assistance. Students will return laptops at the end of the school year. The cost of a missing laptop is $483 and a charger is $23. Replacement chargers can be purchased through MySchoolBucks.

Reminder - Personal Device Away for the Day

Students are not be permitted to use their cell phones, earbuds, smart watches, and other similar devices during the instructional day from 7:30 AM to 2:15 PM. Phones must be silenced and kept away for the duration of the school day. Storage may be in a locker, backpack, pencil bag, etc., during the day.

Schools are partnering with parents to help students understand the importance of putting their phones away to minimize distractions during class. Families are encouraged to review the parental controls available for all iPhone and Android users. Thank you for your support and partnership.
