Principal's Message

Good evening, Eagle Community,

What a lovely Thursday! Recess was certainly a fun time with weather hitting 80 in February. Our Eagles were soaring around the outside of the building, laughing, and enjoying that wonderful spring-like day for the short time we had it. Friday had a strong return of cold winds!

But, weather changes are not the only news at KJMS. Thanks to all of the Eagles who were able to attend out Glow Dance on Friday afternoon. We appreciate Mr. Barnes as the DJ and our SCA Sponsors, Ms. Borkowski and Ms. Luther! Our volleyball team ended the evening playing over at Hughes Middle School

Below, be sure to read the article about our FCCLA honoring our custodians for their hard work last week. Visitors often comment about how great our school looks with our new murals and our clean common areas. Thanks to all of our Eagles for ensuring KJMS is a great place to be!

SOAR Eagles,

Tammy Silipigni,

Principal

FCCLA Members Celebrate

FCCLA Week Helping Custodian

pic

On Tuesday, February 14th, FCCLA members at Katherine Johnson Middle School celebrated IncREDible Service Day. The students decided they wanted to help the custodians after-school on Valentine’s Day as their community service. Members were grouped together and then assigned to one of the evening custodians. The teams worked for over two-hours in various parts of the building doing a variety to jobs. One member commented, “They do this every day. It’s a lot of work. I never realized that”. In addition, the FCCLA chapter shared a special Valentine’s dinner with the custodial staff. This student involvement impacts the community in positive ways through collaboration and by developing ethical citizens. FCCLA members at KJMS also do community service work for the Ronald McDonald House and the Sadie Rose Foundation. For more information, please contact advisor, Susan von Schaack, at sevonschaack@fcps.edu.

News from Fairfax High School

Four years ago, your 8th graders were moving on to Fairfax High School.  Now, they are moving on and we want to celebrate your work with them in middle school and their work in high school.  Your current students will be doing this before you know it.  Help us keep the tradition alive for them.

We are hosting a safe and fun Fairfax All Night Grad celebration at the St. James Sports Complex and running a silent auction to help fund it.  Check it out at  https://app.galabid.com/fhsangsa2023.  Click on "Register" and you're in.  Please help our local businesses and seniors in this event.  The auction closes March 3, 2023 at 10:00 PM.

For 35 years, Fairfax High School has hosted an alcohol-free, drug-free celebration held on graduation night designed to keep our seniors safe.  This celebration, known as All Night Grad, is planned, fundraised, executed and chaperoned by parent volunteers!  High schools throughout FCPS, around the state and across the country, host ANG events with a similar purpose.
