Annandale HS Student Services Newsletter

Annandale Student Services

Message from the Director:

Dear Atom Nation,

This week I want to highlight some unique opportunities for our students. For our current seniors, the College Board’s National Recognition Programs’ applications opened on Wednesday, February 15. You can find information about these opportunities in the student flier. College Board has identified students who are eligible to apply, and students identified by College Board will receive an email invitation from the College Board. Students are also able to nominate themselves by visiting bigfuture.org/NRP.

For our current sophomores and juniors, next year, Annnadale will be offering Teachers for Tomorrow. The Teachers for Tomorrow course introduces juniors and seniors to a career in teaching and education. Students will learn the fundamentals of teaching practice, how to engage with learners, and the organizational context of schools. The course also includes an internship outside the Teachers for Tomorrow classroom, which may involve the preschool level through 12th grade. I am asking any student interested in taking this course to complete this Annandale Teachers for Tomorrow Interest Form. Students who complete the form will be contacted by their counselor to discuss enrolling them in the course for next school year.

As always, please reach out to our team if we can help or support in any way!

Erik Healey

Director of Student Services

Register to Take the ASVAB: The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test measures a young adult’s strengths and weaknesses and provides feedback on potential for future career success. Students are encouraged to take the test because it is a valuable career assessment tool which can help identify which career is best for each student. Though the test is developed by the Department of Defense, it is not just for those going into the military. It’s a great start to finding the perfect career for students by highlighting those skills which students naturally have. To sign up for the ASVAB test you may go see your school counselor or contact your local recruiter, Staff Sergeant Meas at 703-424-8923.

NOVA Vision: FCPS and Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), are offering a virtual opportunity for students with disabilities to learn about available options at the post-secondary level.
