Dear Haycock Families,
Thank you for your geneoristy for the Kids Heart Health fundraiser this past week. Many of our teachers participated in the jump roping which was great fun for our students.
Please visit the McLean Pyramid Art Show at the McLean Community Center from March 1-11. There is a reception on Thursday, March 9 from 4:30-6:00. Stop by if you are able to see the work of many of our Haycock artists.
Congratulations to our Science Olympiad Division B Team! They placed third at the VASO TJ Tournament and will be proceeding to the state tournament on March 25. We are Haycock proud of them. Thank you to the many parents who have assisted with providing this opportunity for our students.
This month, we have incorporated opportunities for our students to learn about and celebrate the many contributions of Black Americans. Students have shared information on the morning news, resources have been shared with teachers, and there are many displays around the halls of Haycock that feature artifacts and art from Black culture. Ask your student what new information they learned during Black History Month.
We are looking forward to celebrating the many diverse cultures represented at Haycock on Thursday, March 16 for Heritage Night. We hope to see you there!
With appreciation for your partnership,
Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu

Morning Kiss and Ride Reminders
Reminders for parents dropping students off in the Kiss and Ride line:
- Please remain in your car- safety patrols are present to open doors and help students get out of the car
- Please move all the way forward in the line as directed by staff members and patrols before letting students out of the car
- Please follow the directions of staff members assisting with Kiss and Ride- they are trying to move the traffic through the line as quickly as possible
We thank you for your cooperation!
Kids Heart Health Thank You!
Thank you so much to the Haycock community for donating to the Kids Heart Challenge over the last few weeks. As of this week, we have raised a little over $12,000!! All of the money will go directly to the American Heart Association.
Thank you so much to the grown-ups at home who were able to join their children during physical education classes. The kiddos were so excited to show off their jump rope skills to you.
As a final reminder, Friday, March 3rd, at 9:00 a.m. donations will stop being collected. At this time, I will be submitting the total donation amount to the American Heart Association. Larger prizes and gift sets will be distributed in a few weeks after I have received and sorted them here at Haycock.

Heritage Night- Save the Date- March 16
Heritage Night will be on March 16th from 6pm-8pm. This is our first time having the event post-Covid and we are so excited to get it going again, as it has been one of Haycock's most popular events that celebrates the wonderful diversity of our school community.
There are many ways to participate:
-Bring a dish from your culture to share
-Set up a table in the gym to present/share about your culture
-Sing, dance, play an instrument, or perform a skit to share about your culture
-Help set up and/or clean up- it takes a lot of work to make these events happen and we would love to have your help!
Please sign up here: https://signup.com/mobileweb/2.0/vspot.html...
While we encourage everyone to participate in one of the ways above, it is most certainly not necessary! Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy learning about each other's backgrounds. This event is great for all ages/grades.
We will post more details as the date gets closer, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, if you have any questions please email leahsocha@gmail.com
Summer Programs
We have received some questions about summer programs. This year, the summer programs for Haycock and the other McLean pyramid elementary schools will be held at Kent Gardens Elementary. Based on the criteria for the Bridge to Kindergarten and SOAR programs, students will be invited to these Haycock summer programs, and this will be communcated to parents in the near future. Right now, we are in the process of learning the criteria, the structure, and the schedule for these summer programs.
