100th Days Smarter!!
This past Monday was the 100th day of school! If you were walking around the building, you would have seen a lot of classrooms celebrating that the students are 100 days smarter. The energy was palpable! Many games were played, number puzzles were solved, and problem solving activities involving the number one hundered were being worked on. It was quite fun to see all of the engaging activities that our teachers planned for the kiddos!
Read Across America
Rose Hill will be celebrating Read Across America the week of February 27th. Below is a schedule of what we will be doing as a school each day of the week. We are looking forward to celebrating literacy!
Monday, February 10th, the 2nd grade team held a Poetry Slam. The classrooms had the ambience of a coffeeshop with snacks, dark lighting, music, and a fireplace roaring on the screen in the background. Each student had the opportunity to read their poem aloud while their peers listened and celebrated their writing. Not only was this a wonderful way to practice reading in front of an audience but also provided an opportunity to practice being a good audience member by active listening and cheering each other on. The kids were so excited to share their poems!

A portion of the proceeds from all in-store orders will be donated to our school. This popular burger joint in located in Springfield Commons. Come check it out!

Immersion & SPED Parent Nights
Over the last two weeks, we hosted an evening event for immersion families as well as families with students with disabilities. The purpose was to share with families what learning looks like for students in school. These events were well attended and the team of teachers who planned them are simply awesome! Thank you to everyone who attended!
RHES Wee Play Parent-Child Playgroups
Parents, caregivers, and their young children birth – 5 years old are invited to enroll in Rose Hill’s free, 90-minute weekly playgroups on Tuesdays at 11:00 AM. This program is for families with children who are not already enrolled in a preschool program or another early education program. The Wee Play program, led by a Fairfax County Public School facilitator, is based on the belief that parents and other caregivers are children’s first and most important teachers. In a welcoming and friendly space at Rose Hill Elementary, Wee Play provides the opportunity for caregivers and their children to learn together and to develop the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual skills needed to succeed in school and beyond.
Activities include exploring toys and materials, singing songs, hearing stories, playing games, and parent discussions.
A new Wee Play group will begin on Tuesday, March 7 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, and will be held every Tuesday through the end of May. Enrollment is required. Registration forms are available in the school office and should be returned to Vivian Reed before Tuesday, February 28.
