We are collecting names for our rising Kindergarten for 2023-24. If you have a child who turns 5 by 9/30/23 please contact Sue Holmes, ksholmes@fcps.edu and let her know what your intentions are for Kindergarten next year. We will be doing a mailing in March with all the registration information.

- Starting in Kindergarten, missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read. That is just a day or two days every few weeks.
- By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of the three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
- Students who are frequently absent in Kindergarten do less well in first grade.
- Absences add up in elementary school. Research shows that missing 18 days in a school year or 2 days every month can result in lower test scores and possible retention in later grades.
- The State of Virginia is tracking all chronic absences (18 or more) and this will be used in determining school accreditation.

We are seeking family and community members who sew! The Musical Theater elective is excited to present Annie this June! If you, or someone you know, is comfortable following a pattern and using a sewing machine, please reach out to Alisa Waggoner (akwaggoner@fcps.edu). We would love to utilize your skills, whether basic or advanced, and in whatever capacity you are willing to donate your time. It is a unique skill these days! Thank you for considering.
