Dear Clearview Families,

This week of fun included the 100th day of school and Valentine’s Day/Pajama Day!  Students enjoyed showing what they know in so many ways.  The next time you are at Clearview, please make time to see the fabulous 3-D artwork that lines the hallways.  Students continue to impress us with their talents!

week 2-17

School Board Approves 2023-24 School Year Calendar

The Fairfax County School Board approved a calendar for the 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 school years at their February 9 meeting. Learn more about the approved calendar

The first day of the 2023-24 school year will be Monday, August 21, and the last day will be Wednesday, June 12

Developing a school year calendar is a balancing act, involving multiple factors that must be considered. Community input is one of those factors, and we appreciate our community for being involved in the calendar development process

Parent Coffee, February 28

Please join us to discuss social media pressure on body image and the relationship to  eating disorders. Today there is a lot of pressure to look a certain way or be up to the standards of social media Likes and Followers. This is a pressure our youth is facing every day and more than ever is a topic that we need to learn more about so we can best support health and wellness. This Parent Coffee will be presented by our School Psychologist, Christine Bilodeau.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Benefit Changes

Beginning March 1, SNAP benefits will return to normal, without the added supplement that was provided to families during the pandemic. Fairfax County Department of Family Services shared a toolkit with us containing information in multiple languages about the change and where people can go for help getting food.

Equity, Excellence, and Opportunity

At Fairfax County Public Schools, we believe that learning happens best in community. When we have equally high expectations for each and every student, we all benefit. Excellence, equity, and access to opportunity are essential for achieving success in all aspects of life. Together, they foster growth, development, and high achievement for all students as they prepare for a world yet to be imagined.

Family Media Agreement

A family media agreement is an agreed family plan about how you, as a family, will deal with computers, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, e-readers and any other digital devices that are in your family's life.

Here is a sample agreement for you to consider bringing into your family life:

Parenting in a digital age

Parenting in the digital age can present both opportunities and challenges. On one hand, technology and the internet provide access to vast amounts of information and resources, making it easier for parents to support their children's education and well-being. On the other hand, the constantly connected nature of digital devices can also raise concerns about screen time, cyberbullying, and exposure to inappropriate content. Balancing the benefits and risks of technology use is an ongoing challenge for many parents in the digital age, here are some video resources that may help.

Spirit wear returns next week

Here comes our second round of spirit wear! Not only are the popular black hoodies and rainbow and yellow tie-dyes returning, but we’re adding black performance-wear t-shirts and gray hoodies! Sales open on Monday at https://clearview23.itemorder.com and flyers will be in next week’s Tuesday Folders! Mark your calendars because Friday, March 3 is the last day to place an order.

Breaking down SPRINGO support

Since we haven’t had any volunteers to help plan SPRINGO, our spring bingo event, please let us know if you are willing to pick up one or two of these tasks.

  • Check our inventory of bingo supplies and order more if needed.
  • Reach out to local businesses for prize donations.
  • Sell cards and markers at the event.
  • Be the bingo caller.
  • Help pass out prizes.
  • Help direct traffic to the card sales table or the food truck.

We’re hoping a “many hands make light work” approach will help us find enough volunteers for one of our last fundraising efforts of the year!

Ready to help? Email Christine Graham at cvaughn.graham@yahoo.com  or text her at 703.895.1469.

Football + food scores big

Thank you to everyone who supported our “Big Game” Football + Food fundraiser. Your purchase of wings and ribs resulted in $241coming back to the PTA for our remaining budget items, particularly staff appreciation and classroom support. Thank you to Eric Sonnhalter, Arpita Patel, and Ryan Herb for making sure the sale and distribution was a success.

Spreading the love on Valentine’s Day

Thank you to our volunteers who hosted a beautiful and bountiful staff breakfast: Keary Buhler, Alecia Nault, Michelle Ratto, Erin Sager, and Cheryl Sullivan. And thank you to Sarah Stein for organizing a supply drive. Thanks to our generous Clearview PTA families, we distributed $1800 worth of much-needed classroom and cleaning supplies. The staff were so appreciative and definitely felt the love that morning!
