Churchill Chatter - Issue 14, February 17, 2023

Dear Churchill Road Families,

It was wonderful to see many of you at Family Bingo Night last week. Thank you to our staff and PTA leadership for a wonderful evening! Our staff also thoroughly enjoyed the PTA soup and salad luncheon this week.

We do want to thank all of the parents who have attended the 2nd round of grade-level coffees.  Your insights, perspective and support have been so appreciated and valuable to us.

As we continue celebrating kindness in the month of February, we hope that your students will help show their love for our school and staff by sharing their love (see below). We look forward to seeing some of you at our fourth grade coffee this coming Tuesday, February 21.

We really would love your help getting the word out about enrolling for next year.  If you have neighbors or friends who have children they plan to enroll, please encourage them to do this as soon as possible, so that we can ensure we have the correct staffing.  Additionally, please let them know if they have specific questions, Mrs. Pierson-Barr is more than happy to personally meet with them as well.

We wanted to let you know our Assistant Principal, Jen Niccolls, will be out for a short time.  During her absence, Mrs. Megan Popelka and Ms. Kathleen Sweeney, both with administrative experience, will be taking the lead, alongside myself and others, to support.

Over the past two weeks our students have been learning about a variety of topics

  • Kindergarteners published and shared their books on a subject they chose.
  • First graders spent the day exploring the number 100 to celebrate the 100th day of school.
  • Second graders applied their fraction knowledge to pizza creation.
  • Third graders enjoyed interacting with science and math during their field trip to the Maryland Science Center.
  • Fourth graders worked on their own poetry anthology and will take their finished book home to keep.
  • Students in fifth grade started their Electricity and Magnetism Unit by taking a closer look at static electricity!
  • Sixth graders studied the early stages of government in the United States, specifically checks and balances.

We hope that everyone enjoys the extra day off this weekend.

Sincerely,

Ms. Jen Niccolls and Mrs. Cherith Pierson-Barr
