Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Spring Hill Families,

What a lovely week it has been! We saw acts of kindness and sharing across all grade levels throughout the week. Our staff also felt a lot of love from our families during our Valentine's Day PTO luncheon. Thank you for all the hearts and delicious lunch.

Monday is Presidents' Day, a holiday during which all FCPS Schools and Offices are closed. We will see everyone on Tuesday.

Have a great weekend!

Family Nutrition Tip of the Week: Build a Healthy Lunch

Whether making lunch for school or at home, a well-built lunch should be appealing and include plenty of nutrition and long-lasting energy. These tips could help ensure a well-balanced lunch that gets eaten and fuels your child through the afternoon.

  • Include about 50% veggies and fruits, 25% protein (nuts, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, hummus, edamame, yogurt), and 25% whole grains (whole-grain bread and tortilla, brown rice, quinoa)
  • Create a lunch "cheat sheet" with a lunch plan for each day or a go-to list of items in each food category, and keep those items in stock
  • Have the kids help create the daily lunch plan, list of food items, or help make lunch themselves
  • Make it appealing with a variety of foods, colors, shapes, and dips.
