Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

Our students are 100 days smarter! This week we did a lot of celebrating: we celebrated Valentine’s Day, 100th day, and our 1st graders celebrated 101 days of 1st grade.  We are so proud of the learning that your children have demonstrated.  Thank you to all of the class parents who organized our fun Valentine’s parties!

Today was a special treat when our 4th grade strings students were able to perform for their classmates and parents.  We like to call this occasion an Informance, because our musicians do an awesome job instructing the upcoming 3rd graders all about what they’ve learned in class so far this year.  We love that so many of our Stingers get involved in our music programs and are grateful for Ms. Campbell for leading today’s show!

Monday, February 20th is a school holiday for students and staff.  We hope you enjoy the long weekend.

Stenwood Parent Reminder Texts

Do you ever feel like you need a quick reminder about a spirit day or upcoming school event?  We are creating a new TalkingPoints group that you can sign up for that will provide those quick reminders to come to you in a text because we know there is a lot to keep track of!  If you would like to join, please fill out this form

SEL Screener Information and Parent Workshop

Parents in grades 3-6, should have received your child’s SEL screener results in the mail.  FCPS has created a webpage dedicated to helping parents understand the results of the SEL screener data, how to talk to your child about the screener data, and conversation starters/skill builders for each of the domains.  Please take advantage of these resources.  If you did not have a chance to join our parent coffee on Tuesday, here is the recording and slidedeck.

Magnet School Application and Lottery Information

The Magnet Program registration window will be open from Wednesday March 1st, through Wednesday, April 12th, 2023.  No late applications are accepted.

If you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th, please register now.  If you have any neighbors with rising kindergartners, please send this information to them, as well.

Positivity Project: Humility

PP Icon

This week, we are focusing on Humility. You do not seek the spotlight. You let your actions speak for themselves.

"Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.”

                                                          ~Rick Warren

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • How is being honest with yourself related to humility?
  • Would you be a good teacher of humility?
  • Why is humility important to lead others and to make a positive impact?
