Congratulations to Senior Maya Pattison, who was recently named a National Merit Finalist. She is one of only 15,000 students nationwide being recognized with this honor. Maya is now under consideration for National Merit Scholarship Awards.
Mrs. Brumfield presented Maya the award this past week.

Fairfax County Police Officer Justin Dellow was celebrated on School Resource Officer (SRO) Day on Wednesday, February 15. Officer Dellow began working at Edison in 2006 - many of our Class of 2023 members were only a year old when he arrived 17 years ago! He knows our community, students and staff, and he is a friend to all. Though a lot of his work is confidential and, on many occasions, entails working during off-duty hours, he always has time for a smile and good word to a student. We are fortunate to have him! |

Safety and Security for students and staff is always the number one priority. Please be assured that all threats are taken seriously, acted upon, and the appropriate law enforcement officers are contacted and start working immediately. If you see or know of a threat, especially after the school day, it is always best to contact the police, call 911. FCPS Office of Safety and Security also has a safety tip line that you can access anonymously online, by text or by phone. Also, please realize that all messaging is approved by FCPS Office of Communications, FCPS Office of Safety and Security, and the Fairfax County Police Department. With ongoing investigations, it is important not to miscommunicate and limited information is shared. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we all work through these challenging times.
Our Step Team was featured this week in the county-wide FCPS This Week newsletter! Step is an African American dance tradition that traces its roots back to West Africa and slavery. Take a moment to enjoy their performance: Step Team
You can learn more about the history of Step here: History of Step
We hope you were able to see a performance of the school play, Clue: Onstage, last November. Our play was reviewed by the DC Chapter of the Critics and Awards Program for High School Theatre, otherwise known as the “Cappies”.
A fellow FCPS student from McLean High School reviewed the play – he ended his review with the following:
"Trying to live up to the expectations that come from adapting a classic piece of media can be intimidating, but Thomas A. Edison's production of Clue: Onstage did so thrillingly, keeping the audience asking "Whodunnit?" as it gave us ninety minutes of pure fun".

The PTSA helped us celebrate the 187th birthday of our namesake, Thomas Alva Edison, today. Donations of sweet treats for our students during all lunches was very much appreciated. |
We heard from many parents this week that their student was out of school because it was “Senior Skip Day”. There is no such holiday in FCPS. Students who missed school for that reason were marked unexcused.
Share Your Thoughts with Us!
What keeps you optimistic about FCPS? What are your concerns? Answer these and two other questions on our Strategic Plan Feedback Form, and help shape our school division’s future.
The next PTSA General Meeting will be on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 7:00 PM. This meeting will be in person, in the School Cafeteria. There will be a guest speaker, Mr. Shawn Elliot, a substance abuse and prevention specialist for FCPS.
Thinking of becoming a member of the Edison HS PTSA? You may access the membership form by clicking on the following link - Membership Form *If the link does not work directly, please copy and paste it into a web browser. THE PTSA REALLY NEEDS YOU!!!
The PTSA desperately needs volunteers to help with all its upcoming events and programs. Without your help it will be near-impossible to organize these events for our School Community.
We are looking for chairs for the following committees. Would you please consider volunteering? Thank You in advance:
- Fundraising Committee
- Scholarship Committee
- Volunteer Committee
In addition, we are looking for volunteers to serve as members on all PTSA committees (https://edisonhsptsa.org/committees/). All our committees provide an opportunity to give back to our Edison Community
For more information, please contact PTSA VP for Membership, Makeda Berhane, vp.membership@edisonhsptsa.org.
Thank You for your support.

Our next Edison Theatre Company Boosters meeting is on Monday, February 27th at 7:30 pm, in Mr. Walker's classroom (Black Box Theatre). Please plan to attend - especially if your child has been cast or is in the crew for the spring musical. Please also consider joining the ETC Boosters, which is a great way to provide support to our Edison theatre program. You do not even have to be a parent of a theatre student to do so - and Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, realtors - everyone is encouraged to join the Boosters!
