Career Day at Woodley Hills Elementary School (WHES) will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023.  We hope to expose our students to a wide range of careers and to help them develop an awareness of the many facets of the career world.  Additionally, we would like to help students make a connection between great character traits and careers.

In order for our career day to be a success, we need parents and other community members to volunteer as presenters.  The presenters will:

  • Donate his/her time at our Career Day (8:45 a.m.-11:00 a.m.)
  • Prepare a 20 minute presentation on his/her career.
  • Bring some sort of visual aid such as a power point, tools/equipment/materials to show during your presentation.

We know that our WHES parents and community members have a wealth of information to share with our students.  Please volunteer if you are available.  You can also help by referring a friend or relative who might be interested in presenting at our Career Day.  If you are interested, please complete the form below or pass it along to a friend or relative. This will be a rewarding experience for you and everyone!

For more information, contact Dr. Trina Clinkscales at (703) 799-2000 (trclinkscale@fcps.edu) or Claire Majors (703) 799-200) (clmajors@fcps.edu)

Communicator

photo

Last month we reconnected with FCPS' implementation of the Portrait of a Graduate. This week, we are highlighting one of the five POG attributes - that of 'Communicator.'  Every day in classrooms, students  utilize the communication skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Teachers and staff work to provide opportunities for students to share their thinking and learning while also getting to experience the different perspectives of their peers.

Below is a snapshot of some of the skills connected to the communicator attribute, and some questions you can ask at home to reinforce your child’s our learning.

For more information and ways to support students at home, visit FCPS' Portrait of a Graduate Family Resources (K-6) website:

Eating Disorder Resources

Eating disorders are serious but treatable mental and physical illnesses that can affect people of all genders, ages, races, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, body shapes, and weights. While no one knows for sure what causes eating disorders, a growing consensus suggests that it is a range of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Eating disorders are not fads or phases, and can have serious consequences for health, productivity, and relationships.

In collaboration with the Fairfax County Health Department, FCPS has developed a webpage with detailed information and resources to be provided to parents and guardians of Fairfax County Public Schools. This information may be found at the following link:
