TLES is committed to building strong relationships and partnerships with our families and communities. We were so thankful to Kristin Crysler for sharing her knowledge with our 5th graders last Friday, February 10th. Ms. Crysler's presentation was highly engaging and our students were deeply engaged throughout her presentation. Our students' questions showed a high level of knowledge of the Solar System.
Kristin shared about herself and her connection to TLES:
My name is Kristin Crysler and my kids Harrison and Violet are in 3rd grade and Kindergarten. I'm also the Vice President of Timber Lane's PTA. I work for a company called Maxar, where we build space technology like satellites and robotics, as well as analyze the satellite imagery. I studied geography in college and graduate school and learned about how to make maps . I consider myself a space geek and I'll be sure to share the link with the 5th graders when our next satellite is launching in the next few weeks so they can see it live!
For fun, here's a satellite image of a pretty special place, can you recognize what it is?

Please see the table below for Timber Lane’s SOL testing dates. It is important that your child attend school on the dates designated for them to test. Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night prior. More information will be sent home in Wednesday folders over the next 2 weeks, including a retest permission form. A retest is available when a student fails their first attempt with a score of 375-399 (where 400 is passing). If you believe that your student would benefit from the retake option, you can fill out this Google Form granting permission or sign and send back the paper copy that will be in Wednesday folders indicating you give permission.
More information on the Standards of Learning assessments can be found here. Please reach out to Shele Banford (703) 206-5300 as questions arise.
