2023 Chesterbrook Spelling Bee Champion

After many rounds of words, we concluded our spelling bee on Thursday evening with our 2023 Chesterbrook champion.

Congratulations to:
Winner, James L.
Runner Up, Nagyung K.

If for any reason James cannot make the Fairfax County Spelling Bee, Nagyung will take his place. Our two final spellers battled it out and either will represent Chesterbrook with great skill.

Afterschool Pickup and Playdates

We appreciate all parents using Pick Up Patrol (PUP) app to notify of changes in transportation. Our afterschool requests are increasing for students to get together afterschool. We want to share reminders of expectations so we can get all our students home safely:

  • Students may not ride another students bus as many buses are at capacity and cannot accommodate
  • Students who ride the same bus may request to get off at a stop together provided both parents submit a PUP request.
  •  All walkers have previously been provided principal permission based on parent permission, age of student and location of home. Students who are not walkers are not permitted to walk home with others.  CES is deemed a non walking school by FCPS. If special permission is needed, please call our office and plan in advance.
  • Want to request walker permission this spring? Any parent with an older student (mainly 5th/6th graders) within close walking distance and ability for student to walk alone may complete this walker parent permission form to request permission.  will be reviewed by administration.
  • Walkers must walk straight home - not to a store, another student's home, or Starbucks.
  • When organizing playdates, it is recommended to have one parent pick up students together at Kiss n Ride or walk and meet your children at the flagpole or gym area. This can be entered in PUP by both families.

Spiritwear Sale

Our Spiritwear sale of the new shirts is open!

https://www.chesterbrookpta.org/2023-spirit-wear

Sale will run through the 27th (it says the 24th on the website right now, but will be open through end of day Monday 2/27 - Kim is changing it).  Tee Shirts will be delivered to classrooms mid march.  $12 for short sleeve $15 for long sleeve.

Did you know?

Lunch Visits - Lunch visits by parents were returned this school year. Parents are asked to let their child's classroom teacher know the day they would like to plan a visit to eat with their child so we can ensure spacing at the table. Parents will use their ID to sign in and then join their child for lunch.

Sharing Treats - Reminder that students may not share birthday treats or food during lunch. While it is nice kids want to share, we have many kids with life threatening allergies.

Newer Chesterbrook Family Survey
Reminder

Are you a new family to FCPS or Chesterbrook in the last couple of years?  Would you enjoy a relaxed time to connect with a small group of families to ask questions and learn more about our community and school supports? I would love to set up an evening to connect with you! In order to set up an opportunity that will support those of you who would like to connect, please share some feedback to plan for this evening event. Some families have had less opportunity to connect and visit the school and we would love to hold an evening where you can do so. If this is of interest to you, please complete this quick survey.

We will plan two upcoming sessions:
Based on early survey data, our first one will be Monday, February 27th at 5:30 PM.  We will look to hold another in March.
