Family Science Night

Last Tuesday, February 7th, Weyanoke hosted a Family Science Night, brought to you by the Children’s Family Science Center. Family Science Night was a fun-filled night that offered a variety of engaging, hands-on science and computer science activities. These experiments were specially designed to help encourage students to take interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects, as well as to encourage students to develop curiosity in everyday life situations.
We are so grateful to have volunteers that included caregivers, Weyanoke staff, FCPS Title 1 Resource office and members from the Children’s Science Center. Thomas Jefferson High School students who are currently competing in the NASA Student Launch Initiative rocketry competition also joined us for the night, sharing their interest in rocketry with students and families.

Pizza & Pizzicato Success
A few weeks ago, about 20 students from the Weyanoke Strings program participated in the Pizza & Pizzicato event at Annandale High School. We are hoping for an even larger turnout next year!
There were over 200 students in the pyramid that showed up, decorated t-shirts, and made connections with Strings students at other elementary schools. AND they learned some fun music in the process with members of the Army Band!
Congratulations to our students and Ms. Susens!
Equity, Excellence, and Opportunity
At Fairfax County Public Schools, we believe that learning happens best in community. When we have equally high expectations for each and every student, we all benefit. Excellence, equity, and access to opportunity are essential for achieving success in all aspects of life. Together, they foster growth, development, and high achievement for all students as they prepare for a world yet to be imagined.

Eating Disorder Resources
Eating disorders are serious but treatable mental and physical illnesses that can affect people of all genders, ages, races, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, body shapes, and weights. While no one knows for sure what causes eating disorders, a growing consensus suggests that it is a range of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Eating disorders are not fads or phases, and can have serious consequences for health, productivity, and relationships.
In collaboration with the Fairfax County Health Department, FCPS has developed a webpage with detailed information and resources to be provided to parents and guardians of Fairfax County Public Schools. This information may be found at the following link:
