We hope you had a wonderful three day weekend!

Last Wednesday, our PTA and school staff sponsored a STEAM night in our cafeteria.  We were so lucky to have a featured speaker, Dr. Cruz-Pol from the National Science Foundation sharing her experiences of becoming an engineer and sending the message to all of the children that they can try and learn a lot of new things and not just be a scientist, but also a scientist who plays instruments, and paints, and loves to hike and dance.  STEAM opportunities allow for children to use all facets of their education to problem solve real life issues and engage in activities and hobbies to cultivate their passions.

The students had a great time trying out many of the STEAM resources we have available at Fort Hunt, such as Keva Blocks, coding, electrical circuits, and more.  We would love to extend a heartfelt thank you to our PTA, the students from the West Potomac High School Gems Club, and our staff volunteers.

El miércoles pasado, nuestro PTA y el personal de la escuela patrocinaron una noche STEAM en nuestra cafetería. Tuvimos mucha suerte de tener una oradora destacada, la Dra. Cruz-Pol de la Fundación Nacional de Ciencias, que compartió sus experiencias de convertirse en ingeniera y envió el mensaje a todos los niños de que pueden probar y aprender muchas cosas nuevas y no solo sé un científico, pero también un científico que toca instrumentos, pinta y le encanta caminar y bailar. Las oportunidades STEAM permiten que los niños usen todas las facetas de su educación para resolver problemas de la vida real y participar en actividades y pasatiempos para cultivar sus pasiones.

Los estudiantes se divirtieron mucho probando muchos de los recursos STEAM que tenemos disponibles en Fort Hunt, como Keva Blocks, codificación, circuitos eléctricos y más. Nos encantaría extender un sincero agradecimiento a nuestro PTA, a los estudiantes del Club de Gemas de la Escuela Secundaria West Potomac y a los voluntarios de nuestro personal.

What are we fundraising for?

During this fundraiser, students ask friends and family for donations via the online Raise Craze platform while paying it forward serving others. What a great way for us to teach our students the importance of kindness and gratitude while raising much needed funds. Students will spend time serving, not selling!

Our annual Dance Around the World PTA event is coming on March 24th! 

Sign up to represent the country you are from or just a country you love. Flyers will be sent home in tomorrow's Wednesday Folder with more details. 

If you sign up by March 2nd, you will be entered to win a raffle basket.

School Board Approves 2023-24 School Year Calendar

La Junta Escolar Aprueba el Calendario para el Año Escolar 2023-24

The Fairfax County School Board approved a calendar for the 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 school years at their February 9 meeting. Learn more about the approved calendar. 

The first day of the 2023-24 school year will be Monday, August 21, and the last day will be Wednesday, June 12. 

Developing a school year calendar is a balancing act, involving multiple factors that must be considered. Community input is one of those factors, and we appreciate our community for being involved in the calendar development process.

La Junta Escolar del Condado de Fairfax aprobó un calendario para los años escolares 2023-24, 2024-25 y 2025-26 en su reunión del 9 de Febrero. Más información sobre el calendario aprobado.

El primer día del año escolar 2023-24 será el lunes 21 de Agosto y el último día será el miércoles 12 de Junio.

Congratulations to our own SIA, Rosa Dobarco, on being chosen as the FCPS Cares Employee of the Month for Region 3! The staff got to celebrate Rosa with yummy treats while she received her certificate and pin. 

¡Felicidades a nuestra propia SIA, Rosa Dobarco, por haber sido elegida la Empleada del Mes de FCPS Cares para la Región 3! El personal pudo celebrar a Rosa con deliciosos pastelitos mientras ella recibía su certificado y su prendedor.

Early Release and Student Holiday

Reminder that Thursday, March 2nd is an early release day.  If your student does not ride the bus, please make sure they are picked up at 1:40p. 

Friday, March 3rd is a School Planning Day and Student Holiday. Classes resume on Monday, March 6th. 

Recordatorio de que el jueves 2 de marzo es un día de salida temprana. Si su estudiante no viaja en el autobús, asegúrese de que lo recojan a la 1:40 p.m.
