Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Eck

K performance

Dear Spring Hill Families,

We've been loving this mild weather for recess, arrival and dismissal! When the weather is warm, children have a tendency to forget their jackets and coats, and our Lost and Found is growing! Please remind your child to check the Lost and Found in the cafeteria.

Next week, we celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week. It’s a celebration of all the ways we can become a positive influence in each other’s lives. Even one small act of kindness can mean a great deal to somebody.

Last, a huge heartfelt thanks to Ms. Rudd and Ms. Harwood for another wonderful music performance. Our Kindergarteners were amazing.

Have a great weekend!

Family Nutrition Tip of the Week: Delight in Dark Chocolate

This Valentine's Day millions of Americans will indulge in the go-to gift of chocolate. In fact, polls show the average American eats about 10 pounds of chocolate per year. By choosing dark chocolate (ideally, at least 70% cocoa) and consuming in moderation (1-2 ounces), you can reap the following health benefits and indulge guilt-free.

  • Flavonoids may help to lower blood pressure and protect cells from oxidative damage

  • Polyphenols may help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and increase HDL (good) cholesterol

  • Minerals magnesium, zinc, copper, iron and phosphorus help keep bones and teeth healthy, and may improve sleep quality

  • Prebiotic fiber helps support a health gut microbiome
