Dear Bailey’s ES Families,

Next week will be a busy week for our teachers and students.  We will be celebrating the 100th Day of School on Monday, February 13th, and Valentine's Day on February 14th. We are also excited about celebrating Bailey’s Acts of Kindness Week.  Having our students engage in random acts of kindness will present a great opportunity for students to show how much they care about their families, friends, and teachers.

You should have received information today from Dr. Reid regarding the 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 school calendars.  This is the first time that FCPS has designated a calendar for three school years. Thank you to everyone who shared their input as the school board worked to make a final decision about the calendar!

As we close out the week, we thank you for your continued support of our school.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Parent/Caregiver Lunch Visitation Schedule

Parents/Caregivers are invited to join their student(s) for lunch at school on an assigned day. This is a great opportunity for parents/caregivers to come in for lunch with their child.

We encourage parents/caregivers to eat the same lunch as their child either packed or school lunch. We kindly ask that you do not bring fast food/outside lunch. On the day of your child’s lunch, please arrive 5 minutes early so you can sign-in at the office and they will direct you to the cafeteria. Additionally, when you leave the school, please remember to check out in the office.  If you choose to buy lunch from the cafeteria, adult pricing is $4.50 and may be paid in cash.  Click here for more information on purchasing lunch.

We ask that you please limit visitors to 1 caregiver, and no strollers please. We also ask that family members do not follow their child's class back to the classroom or outside for recess.

Please see below for the scheduled lunches by teacher

Random Acts of Kindness Week

During the week of February 13th-17th classes will celebrate Random Acts of Kindness week. In addition to having spirit days to help our students understand different concepts of kindness, classes will also be talking about why kindness is important and how it can be shown to others. Students and/or classes will decide if they would like to challenge themselves to complete random acts of kindness at school, but if you would like to participate as a family and further your child’s understanding, here are some kindness challenges you can complete as a family. Please see the checklist below!

How Can You Help Your Child Have Good Attendance?

Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and put your child behind in school.  This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.

  • Talk about the importance of showing up to school every day, make that the expectation.
  • Help your child maintain routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s  sleep.
  • Find out if your child feels engaged by his classes and feels safe at school. Make sure he or she is not missing class because of behavioral issues and school discipline policies. If any of these are problems, work with your school.
  • Stay on top of academic progress and seek help from teachers or tutors if necessary. Make sure teachers know how to contact you.
  • Stay on top of your child’s social contacts. Peer pressure can lead to skipping school, while students without many friends can feel isolated.
  • Encourage meaningful afterschool activities, including sports and clubs.

During the winter season, if missing school is unavoidable, talk to your children’s teachers in advance to create a plan for making up missed work.  But remember, a homework packet cannot make up for the interaction and learning that goes on in the classroom.

Visit our website for more attendance resources.
