Visitors to School

Hayfield Elementary encourages and welcomes parents/guardians to volunteer in their child’s classroom and dine with their children for lunch. FCPS policy requires all visitors to report to the office first, show a photo ID and wear a visitor’s badge while in the school building. If you are here for lunch, the cafeteria should be your only destination. If you wish to check your child out after lunch or volunteering, please come to the office so that we can contact the classroom teacher. Please note that visiting classrooms is not permitted. Thank you for your understanding and support so that we can minimize disruption to instructional time.

2023-24 Kindergarten and New Student Registration

We look forward to welcoming our newest Hawks to Hayfield ES for the 2023-24 school year. Children residing in our boundaries who will turn 5 years old on or before September 30, 2023, as well as students in grades 1-6 transferring from Private/Home Schools or moving into our boundaries prior to the start of the new school year must visit our school website and select an appointment to register. All registrations are done by appointment only. Appointments are open now and continue throughout the summer.

Please spread the word to neighbors to whom this may pertain. While you are guaranteed enrollment (as long as you physically reside in our boundaries and meet the age requirements) we prefer you register sooner rather than later to ensure we are adequately staffed. You must have all of the documents/forms to be enrolled. If your child’s most recent health physical was completed prior to August 21, 2022, you will need to provide a more current physical once completed.

All information pertaining to registration, including eligibility and forms is outlined on our student registration page on our HES website where you can make an appointment and find the forms to register.

Immunization Requirements for Rising 7th Graders

The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).

All students entering 7th grade will be required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

  • To meet the Meningococcal (MenACWY) requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
  • As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.

ACTION REQUESTED: Please provide one of the following immunization documents to the Student Information Assistant (SIA) or Registrar at your child’s school as soon as possible:

  1. An immunization record showing that the child has received at least one dose of each of the required immunizations listed above.
  2. A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the vaccine(s) was given.
  3. A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  1. A notarized Religious Exemption Form, which is available online at: https://bit.ly/VDOEReligiousExemptionForm

Immunizations are available from your child’s healthcare provider, the Fairfax County Health Department, or other community resources.

Questions?  Please contact our Registrar, Lisa Warden, at lbwarden@fcps.edu or 703-924-4500.

Eating Disorder Parent Information

“Eating disorders are serious but treatable mental and physical illnesses that can affect people of all genders, ages, races, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, body shapes, and weights. While no one knows for sure what causes eating disorders, a growing consensus suggests that it is a range of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Eating disorders are not fads or phases, and can have serious consequences for health, productivity, and relationships.”

In collaboration with the Fairfax County Health Department, FCPS has developed a webpage with detailed information and resources to be provided to parents and guardians of Fairfax County Public Schools. This information may be found at the following link:

Healthy Relationships With People and Substances

Relationships are important components in the development of living a fulfilling life. Valentine’s day occurs in the month of February, causing a frenzy of purchases and planning between loved ones to show appreciation and love. Forming and maintaining healthy relationships is difficult but vital for those in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Healthy relationships are a factor in helping people maintain sobriety (Addiction Center). Bonds and companionship provide emotional support and are effective in increasing health and wellbeing. Emotional support decreases fears and helps people to thrive.

There is value in healthy relationships. Healthy relationships decrease people struggling with addictions from engaging in toxic attachments that create feelings of frustration, stress, and conflict. Negative attachments can bring out the worst in people and create feelings that can lead to increased use of alcohol and substance misuse and abuse. Positive relationships encourage growth, comfort, and the creation of emotional bonds that provide feelings of joy and support. Open communication and commitment are two of the best ways to foster the ideal type of relationships most people strive for.

Common values to develop in healthy relationships include:

  • honesty
  • reciprocity
  • effort
  • respect
  • safety & security
  • laughter
  • acceptance
  • healthy boundaries
  • unconditional love
  • friendship
  • non-judgmental

As the world celebrates love, it is important to do our part in the creation of positive partnerships, social circles, and healthy connections. Encourage the support and inspiration of those that may be silently vulnerable and struggling to feel safe.

Student Transfer Renewal Applications Open February 15

A student transfer is valid for one year only. A parent or guardian must submit a renewal application each year for student transfer consideration. A renewal application may be submitted for students who continue to meet the same student transfer criteria as indicated on the original student transfer request. For students no longer meeting the same student transfer criteria, a new transfer request must be submitted.

All students will be considered eligible for student transfer renewal unless the principal indicates a student is not eligible for renewal or the transfer type does not allow for renewal e.g. graduating, moving from one level to another, or family relocation.

Letters from the principal will be automatically generated from the online student transfer application in February for students eligible and not eligible for renewal and sent to the enrolling parents primary email address.

For detailed information regarding the renewal process, please visit the Online Student Transfer Application: Renewal Process webpage
