PresidentsDay

Crossfield Gives Back

On Friday, February 24, we will be participating in “Crossfield Gives Back"— a day of giving where all students will prepare, sort and pack 550 weekend food packs of snacks and meals for food insecure students across Fairfax County. These packs will be distributed by Food for Others.

Over the next few weeks, our 6th graders will be sharing information on food insecurity through poster campaigns and on the WCES morning news. Students in grades K-3 will also have grade-appropriate lessons where they will learn about poverty and food insecurity.

We are asking for the help of our Crossfield Community in providing food for these packs (oatmeal, granola bars, etc). You can sign up to donate food and to help our students with their day of giving here:

https://www.crossfieldpto.org/2023/01/02/crossfield-gives-back-food-packing-event/

Please share this link for food donations far and wide (neighborhoods, churches, local friends and family). This is an ambitious effort, but we know we can do it. Let’s show the love, Crossfield! Together, we can help fellow students in our community. For more information, contact CGB@crossfieldpto.org

6th Grade End of Year Events Planning Committee – JOIN TODAY!

Our 6th graders are growing up and moving up to middle school!  Let’s help them celebrate this achievement and make wonderful memories with some FUN End of Year Events!  Traditional Crossfield 6th grade End of Year Events include a BBQ, kickball game, ath grade dance party, and Promotion Ceremony with Reception.  A new fun recess tradition was added last year to celebrate the return of 6th grade events that were not held for two years because of COVID restrictions.

Be part of the FUN—parent volunteers are NEEDED!  All 6th grade parents are welcome to get involved and become part of the Planning Committee.  Our kickoff meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00 pm to discuss planning of our upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

Spring Pictures

United

We are thrilled to invite all Crossfield students and their families to participate Wednesday, March 8 from 6:30-8:30 for our first-ever Crossfield United: Multicultural & Art Fest. Also featured at this event will be a beautiful gallery of artwork created by our wonderful students! Be sure to come and see because every student will have a piece on display!

Participation in the multicultural exhibits as a family, individual or group performances within a family or as an outside group (girl scouts, boy scouts, dance group, etc.) ALL ARE WELCOMED! Here are important details & considerations before you fill out the form.

Event Details & Supplies

  • You will be given a dedicated table and space at the event, which can be used to represent your culture in any way you choose.
  • All Crossfield student participants will receive a basic supply kit and tri-fold presentation board to help teach others about the people and traditions of your chosen culture.

A Few Things to Consider

  • Culture can be both International and National:: International culture is culture that extends beyond our national borders. It is shared by people across oceans and continents.  National culture represents the beliefs and practices shared by citizens of the same nation. Remember there are many interesting cultures to represent and explore within the United States as well.
  • You can choose any culture. You can represent a culture that you and your family are a part of, one that you are passionate about, or one that you simply want to learn more about.
  • Families are welcomed to participate. Get your grandparents and other family members involved - they may be really excited to pass on their knowledge and experience to you.
  • There are many different ways to represent culture. In addition to the presentation board, you can use food, fashion, art, music, dance, sports, or photography to share more about your culture with others. If you choose food, think of items that would be easy for people to sample while walking around.
  • Once you decide what you want to do, please sign up HERE

SEL

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Spotlight

The five competencies of Social Emotional Learning: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Responsible Decision-Making, Relationship Skills and Social Awareness

Grades 3-6 students took the SEL Screener (social emotional learning) in November and parents should have received score reports in January.  If you’re wondering what these results mean, please take a look at the family guide which includes some helpful conversation starters for each domain.  You can also find the exact questions asked on the screener here.  Students will take this screener again in March. Please contact our school counselors, Lea Fadden (K,1,2,3,5) and Ashley Mangan (4 & 6) with any questions.
