LRES Community News 2.5.23

Message from Mrs. Castillo

Poetry

We had a wonderful full week of school last week!  Thank you parents for sending in your children on Friday wearing LRES spirit wear!  It is fantastic to see the school spirit from arrival through dismissal.  The next special dress days are Polo Day on Friday, February 17 and then Future/Career Day on Friday, February 24.

Last Tuesday, each of our sixth grade classes shared their poetry writing with parents, teachers, and the community.  It was great to hear so many voices in each room!

Than, on Friday, our 6th graders and PE teachers had a fun and very competitive volleyball tournament.  It came down to the wire, but the Goofy Grapes won against the 6th graders, but sadly lost to the staff team.  Great job all of our teams and our PE department for pulling it off!

Lemon Road students have outdoor recess twice per day each full day of school.  We go outside nearly every day.  Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather including pants, a coat, a hat, and gloves so they can participate fully in all aspects of school.  If your family is in need of winter coats or warm accessories, please email School Counselor, Erica McKinney at ecmckinney@fcps.edu

A gentle reminder that Tutor.com is available to all students for free. With Tutor.com through Schoology, FCPS students are able to get learning help at any time, even from bilingual tutors! Students in FCPS meet with tutors thousands of times each week to practice reading or prepare for an upcoming math test. More info about Tutor.com in FCPS is available here.

Thank you once again for all the families that continue to drop off drinks or snacks for the staff on Fridays.   Our staff really appreciate all the care we receive from our families.  Have a great week!

Important Band News

Unfortunately Mr. Frederick broke his leg this weekend and is anticipating surgery tomorrow.  Our plans for the concerts Thursday & Friday may be altered.  Stay tuned for final word, but our band rehearsals will NOT take place as scheduled until further notice.  Band students should bring their instruments this week only on the day they typically have band instruction.  Wish Mr. Frederick luck and we will communicate updates as soon as we have them.

Positivity Project: Cheering Others' Successes

cheer

This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Cheering Others’ Successes. This means when other people succeed, I am happy for them and cheer them on. Being happy for other people when they succeed isn’t always everyone’s initial reaction. Often, it’s easy to become jealous or envious of others’ victories. Being supportive of people who succeed is good for our mental, physical, and emotional well-being and when people cheer each other on it begins a reciprocal process that forges stronger relationships. Those relationships are the foundation for a strong culture in teams, schools, and businesses.
