Churchill Chatter - Issue 12, February 3, 2023
Dear Churchill Road Families,
Thank you for your contributions for Rise Against Hunger. We raised $2,575 out of our goal of $3,050! We look forward to seeing some of you at the Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event tomorrow.
Over the past two weeks there have been a lot of creative learning opportunities for our students.
-
Kindergarteners enjoyed guest readers on National Read Aloud Day.
-
First graders designed a bird feeder during science.
-
Second graders started a new unit about fractions and are learning about European Explorers, and the connection between Europe and the Americas.
- Third grade students chose a scene from their mystery story to create a diorama that will include clues and a red herring.
- Fourth graders are excited to start learning about the Revolutionary War in Virginia Studies.
- Students in Fifth Grade continued working on their Global Environment Architecture Painting unit, researching and sketching architecture styles throughout history as a basis for their own designs.
- Sixth graders learned about the Articles of Confederation as they started a new unit on the New Nation.
Thank you to all who have participated in the first round of grade level parent coffees! Dates for the next round of grade level parent coffees are listed below. Emails will be sent to families in each grade level approximately 10 days before each coffee.
Warmly,
Jen Niccolls and Cherith Pierson-Barr

Phones and Smart Watches
Parents, please help us in reminding your child that during the school day phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited. Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency. The only time that they may be out for use, is if a teacher has approved them to be used for instructional purposes. Additionally, at no time, should a student be using a personal phone or smart watch to record another student or a staff member.
