Communication: A Foundation for Independence

This workshop is intended for parents of students with Autism served in preschool autism classrooms (PAC), Enhanced Autism Classrooms (EAC) and CAT B secondary classrooms.

Topics covered will include:

▪ Communication wants and needs
▪ Using social interactions and environments to facilitate communication
▪ Breaking down how to teach communication

Inclement Weather Statement: If FCPS announces a two-hour delay, training will take place as scheduled. If there is an early closing and/or cancellation of afterschool activities the evening session will be canceled. If there is a full day closing both training sessions will be canceled.

We look forward to seeing the interesting and creative ways that our staff will embed Black History Month content into classroom instruction and activities this month!

New Text-to-Speech Feature on FCPS Websites

FCPS is introducing an innovative way to address the diverse needs of the community. A new text-to-speech feature, available on the Key Center School website (and all other FCPS websites). This feature will read the words aloud from webpages.  

The feature will help those with accessibility needs, such as visual impairments, dyslexia, or other difficulty reading large amounts of online text. The text-to-speech feature is available for English, Spanish, and Korean. Learn more and try out the new feature.


Key Center Recognized with FCPS Award for Communication Excellence

Fairfax County Public Schools presented five schools with awards for outstanding school communications at the School Communicators Conference held January 27th.  We are proud to announce Key Center was one of the five schools recognized with the FCPS Award for Communication Excellence.  

This award celebrates the creation of excellent website, newsletter, and social media content that informs and engages readers. The award seeks to recognize the talent, effort, and leadership of FCPS principals, newsletter editors, social media leads, and school website curators.  The Key Center Communication team includes Patti Alexander, Administrative Assistant I; Helly Ahmadyar, Administrative Assistant II and Beth Curtis, School Based Technology Specialist.

In attendance to receive Key Center’s award were:  Helly Ahmadyar, Administrative Assistant II; Beth Curtis, School Based Technology Specialist; and Ann Smith, Principal.
