GBE Happenings 02.01.2023

Dear GBE Families,

It’s hard to believe we are halfway through the school year! I am very proud of all the amazing things happening each day at GBE! We look forward to a fun and exciting second half of the school year.

On February 10th at 10:00 AM, I will host the next Principal/PTA Concurrent Coffee. I hope you can join in-person or virtually. We will share information around mathematics instruction at GBE! Ms. Herendeen will join me during our time together!

We are thrilled to host our Family Math Night this month on Wednesday, February 15th at 6:30 PM. Ms. Herendeen and our staff have been working hard to prepare for a wonderful evening together exploring all things Math! A big thank you to Ms. Herendeen and our staff for their leadership preparing for this great opportunity for our families!

Our PTA is also hard at work developing additional social events this spring. The PTA will be sure to advertise those events in their Friday News You Choose! Don’t forget to join this Friday, February 3rd at Chuck E. Cheese (the Herndon location) from 3 PM-9 PM. Chuck E. Cheese will donate up to 20% of the sales generated from this event. This includes food, merchandise, delivery, and carryout orders!

Sincerely,

Dave Pietzman, NBCT

Principal

First Annual Chantilly Band Day Event

RRMS Band Concert

On Friday, January 27th, Rocky Run Middle School hosted the first of what we hope will be a long yearly tradition!  Chantilly Band Day is an event open to all 6th Grade Band Students in the Chantilly Pyramid.  Over 160 students participated from  Greenbriar East, Greenbriar West, Brookfield, Poplar Tree, Oak Hill, and Lees Corner Elementary Schools.  We had over 20 sixth grade band students from GBE participate.  All Chantilly Band Day students got the opportunity to play three fun and challenging pieces of music in a huge band directed by the Rocky Run and Franklin MS band directors.  This gave the students a good preview of what it’s like to be in a Middle School Band.  Students also broke off into instrument sectionals to rehearse the music and refine their skills.  Sectional instruction was led by the elementary band directors.  We also had a great group of parent and student volunteers from Rocky Run MS and Chantilly HS to help make sure the event ran as smoothly as possible.   Students received a free t-shirt and pizza for lunch!  After lunch, the students put on an excellent concert in the Gym for family and friends in attendance.  I hope that all of this year’s 5th Grade Band Students will consider participating next year as 6th Grade Band Students!  Overall, the event was a big success!

Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities

Winter Coates

We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories which may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. See the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.

If you need assistance supplying your child with cold-weather clothing, please contact GBE's family liaison, Wafika Albani (wmalbani@fcps.edu).

Pickup Patrol

Important Reminders

Greenbriar East uses PickUp Patrol for parents to report absences, late arrivals, and early pick-ups.

GBE values PickUp Patrol as it ensures a safe dismissal for all students based on the child's default plan. Please use the link here.

To update your child's default plan to "bus rider", "kiss and ride", or "walker," simply log in and select a dismissal option. Then hit submit and that’s it! Your child's teacher and the main office will be notified. Updating your child's default plan is a one-time action. Use PickUp Patrol regularly to report a plan change, absence, late arrival, or early pick-up. A default plan is NEEDED for all students.

ALL PLAN CHANGES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 2:15 P.M.

Please contact our main office if you do not have an active account and require a new welcome activation email.
