Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

We hope that many of you will join us for PTA’s virtual paint night next Thursday.  If you have not had a chance to sign up for a free kit of supplies, you need to by today!  Additional kits can be purchased if you or other family members want to have fun too!

We loved listening to our first graders share their poems this week.  We love celebrating our students and the hard work they put in everyday.

Just a reminder, Stenwood has a no-food sharing policy as we have a lot of students at Stenwood with life-threatening food allergies.  It would also be great to have a conversation with your child about how to best protect their classmates from the allergens.

On Wednesday, we will be sending home 2nd quarter progress reports.

See below for more information about:

Safety Drill Information

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. We also just completed our second bus evacuation drill for the year earlier this week.  Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year. This also includes practicing the lockdown drill.

For your awareness, we will have a lockdown drill sometime next week.  All students in PreK-6th grade will participate in the lockdown drill.  Additional information on lockdown drills, including parent tips and FAQs, can be found on the Emergency Planning and Crisis Response web page. After reviewing this content, you should discuss the value of these safety drills with your child.

Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for helping to keep our school safe.

Reminder about Cell Phone Use

In elementary school, Kindergarten-sixth grade student’s phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off during the school day. Students are prohibited from using phones, smart watches, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms, cafeteria, and recess unless there is a true emergency.  The full SR&R can be accessed online at: https://www.fcps.edu/srr

Positivity Project: Cheering Others’ Success

PP Icon

This week, we are working on ONE of the FIVE overarching pillars of the Positivity Project. Cheering others’ success is an important test of our character every single day.

"Friends don’t get jealous of each other or begrudge the other for finding success. They celebrate every victory together.”

                                                          ~Karen Kingsbury

How to Be Happy for the Success of Others:

  1. Be grateful. The root of jealousy is cut off when you focus on the things you DO have, not that you don’t have.
  2. Be inspired instead of discouraged by their success.
  3. Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone is different.
  4. Know that your value does not come from external things.
