LRES Community News 1.29.23

Message from Mrs. Castillo

Mentor

We hope that your family enjoyed the long weekend!  As we end the second quarter, note that the progress reports in ParentVUE will be closed until Monday, February 6, 2023.  Progress reports will be available on February 6 by noon.

Ms. Ulsh and I will be reviewing the SR&R with all students in the third quarter. Given that FCPS cell phone expectations are new, we wanted to highlight that in all student phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off when phone use is prohibited. The full SR&R can be accessed at: https://www.fcps.edu/srr

Thank you once again for all the families that continue to drop off drinks or snacks for the staff on Fridays and to our PTA President for baking delicious sweets for the Friday workday.  Our staff really appreciate all the care we receive from our families.  Here's to another action-packed semester of learning for our lions!

Positivity Project: Forgiveness

Forgiveness

This week, classes will discuss and practice forgiveness.  You forgive those who have done wrong.  You accept that people make mistakes.  Forgiveness is the ability to move past being injured, and allow yourself to reconcile with the person who hurt you.  Forgiveness can often be seen as a selfless act, but it also carries many benefits for those who practice it. Those who demonstrate forgiveness have the ability to move forward after someone has hurt them. Forgiveness is often rooted in the idea that all people are valuable and worthy of a second chance.

Strategic Plan Community Input

Please join Superintendent Reid and members of the School Board in upcoming community forums to discuss the development of FCPS’ new Strategic Plan. These are opportunities for families, students, staff, and community members to review student achievement, access, and perception data and identify strengths and challenges.

In small groups, participants will use research-based strategies as a framework to transform their observations into recommended goals for the strategic plan. The data from the Community Forums will be synthesized and shared with the Core Planning Team to incorporate into the final strategic plan goals.
