Principal’s Message
Dear Irving Families,
Did you know that FCPS has a new way to communicate with teachers and school staff? Available for all families is TalkingPoints. We have been testing out the app and have sent out a few reminder messages in addition to our weekly News You Choose newsletters. It is our hope that you will find the app a helpful way to provide 2-way quick communication. The best part - the app can translate messages sent back and forth into over 145 languages making it easier for families to communicate with the school staff. To start using the tool, download the app by scanning the QR code above or utilize the app store for your device.
Monday, January 30, is the first day of the 2nd semester and we look forward to finishing out our school year strong! When students arrive on Monday, they should report to their 2nd period class from 1st semester. Students will receive a paper copy of their 2nd semester schedule and then transition to their new 2nd period if applicable. Students will continue to follow their new schedules for the remainder of the day.
On Tuesday, January 31, students will participate in the DCJS/VDOE School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions during 3rd period Rock Block. We collected opt-outs back in December/early January and all parents/guardians who opted their child out of participating have received a return email from me. If you would like to opt your child out, you may still do so by completing this form. In order to properly prepare, all opt-outs need to be completed by the end of the day on Monday, January 30.

Morning Arrival
Irving Middle School opens to students at 7:00 am. Please do not drop your student off before 7:00 am, especially in inclement weather, the building is closed and they will have to wait outside until 7:00 am so that we can ensure we have staff in the building to supervise them. Students arriving between 7:00 and 7:10 must go to the cafeteria.

Snow Day Information
Fairfax County has announced that we will transition to synchronous virtual learning days starting on the sixth snow day if we go over five snow days this winter. In the event of a virtual learning day, please have the FCPS Laptop Resources website bookmarked to help with laptop information and troubleshooting FCPS-issued devices at home.

After School Information
Program Structure & Club Sign Ups
We will offer late buses on Mondays, Tuesdays, SOME Wednesdays, and Thursdays, buses depart from Irving between 4:35 pm and 5:00 pm. The weekly sign-up regenerates weekly, the link will be available Fridays by 10am. Updates and changes will be shared via Schoology, lunch (cafeteria), Rock Block and the after school program board.

Back to Basics: Strategies for Success - Leadership Coaching, is a 6-week course that incorporates Portrait of a Graduate goals and enhances their communication skills. This free course is offered on Wednesdays after school, both blocks; first session ends Wednesday, March 8, second session begins Wednesday, March 15.
