Franklin Families and Students,
Good afternoon and congratulations on a great first half of the school year.
On Wednesday, our students and staff demonstrated their impressive work ethic and determination by finishing the 2nd Quarter strong. You will find information below about our report card and progress report timelines. As we begin the 3rd quarter, we will review many of our schoolwide procedures with every Franklin Falcon. There will also be opportunities to reflect on the strengths they developed during the first semester and the goals they want to set for themselves in the second half of the year.
I would like to thank two of our teachers, Mrs. Rachel O’Connell and Mr. Dan Hill, for their efforts to bring our communities together through the power of music. Last Saturday, Mrs. O’Connell directed the amazing elementary students in the Oakton Area Orchestra and they gave an impressive performance at our school. Earlier today, Mr. Hill was one of the leaders of the Chantilly Band Day which combined 150 sixth grade students from local schools for rehearsals, sectionals, and an awesome concert. Congratulations to these teachers and all of these future Chantilly and Oakton musicians.
Finally, we are excited to announce a new partnership between our school and the United States Geological Survey. Franklin is the newest location for one of their Precipitation and Meteorological Stations. You and your family can monitor all of the data it collects here. Although the data isn't that exciting yet, it will eventually be reporting rainfall volume and rainfall intensity to the website every 15 minutes. We are excited that we are able to bring this opportunity to our community and our science and math students will be using this data for real-world projects later this year.
Always feel free to contact me directly a dpwright@fcps.edu if there is anything we can do to support your student or your family.
Best wishes for an enjoyable weekend.
Sincerely,
Dustin Wright
Principal

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) Field Trip
On Tuesday, March 7, Franklin Middle School will be taking a group of 7th grade students to visit Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. This is an opportunity for students who may choose to apply to Thomas Jefferson as 8th graders to see the school, visit several science labs, and enjoy a presentation in the planetarium.
7th graders interested in applying to Thomas Jefferson should be enrolled in Math 7 honors or higher, Science 7 honors, and one other honors course (English, Civics, or identified as a “Young Scholar”). If your child is in 7th grade, meets the eligibility requirements and is interested in learning more about Thomas Jefferson High School, please complete the TJ Field Trip Interest Form no later than February 28th.
We will likely have more students interested in attending the field trip than we have capacity. If this is the case, we will randomly select students who meet the eligibility criteria and have the field trip materials turned in on time. To read more about the Young Scholars model, please click here. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Meg Dombro.
Franklin MS After School Program Information
We hope your child has found an interest in one or more of our after-school activities. As a reminder, many of our clubs are “open enrollment” meaning students are welcome to start attending whenever they are ready. You can check out the schedule for next week here. For questions regarding the After School Program, please email Mrs. Mollé.
