Congratulations to our Assistant Building Supervisor, Sam Jeffrey on his retirement. For 25 years he has provided outstanding care and service to the Kings Park community. We wish Sam a wonderful retirement and thank him for all he has done for the Kings Park staff, students, and community over the years!

Dual Language Immersion Program Registration

Registration for the countywide lottery for Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs opened on Monday, January 23. Current pre-k students may apply for the kindergarten immersion program, and current kindergarten students may apply for the first grade immersion programs for the 2023-24 school year. 

Programs are available in French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. Visit the DLI registration page for more information on where the programs are offered. 

Parents who are interested in the DLI programs in FCPS are encouraged to attend an informational meeting at their school site. Meetings will begin on January 11. Details regarding access to virtual meetings will be available on the Dual Language Immersion registration page by the meeting date.

Magnet School Application and Lottery Information

The Magnet Program registration window will be open from Wednesday March 1, through Wednesday, April 12, 2023.  No late applications are accepted.

To learn more about the programs and the registration process, families are encouraged to attend one of the Parent Informational Nights:

  • Hunters Woods Elementary, February 13, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. - In-person
    • Snow date: February 21, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
  • Bailey’s Upper, February 15, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. - Virtual only
  • Bailey’s Primary, February 16, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. - In person
    • Snow date: February 23, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.

FCPS CARES

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for families, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Kings Park Elementary. We love our staff members; let's tell them how we feel!

Summer Tech Camp, Registration Opens Feb 1

This weekly summer program gives students the opportunity to explore the exciting pathways in Career and Technical Education including STEAM, culinary, health, trades, and computer science. Here is more information about the camp days, fees, and registration.

KP/KG PTA News

Hidden Oaks “Animals in Winter” program THIS Saturday, February 4th.  We will have two sessions (at 9:30 am and at 11:00 am).  Learn about what animals do in wintertime, meet some live animals, and join us for a trail walk, weather permitting.  A pre-registration link and more information can be found on this flier.

Nominating Committee.  Each year the PTA elects a Nominating Committee to put forth a slate of candidates for the PTA's next executive board.  The PTA plans to elect the nominating committee at our February 28 meeting.  Are you interested in serving on this committee?  Please contact PTA president, Charlotte Hannagan, at president@kpkgpta.org.  Similarly, please reach out to Charlotte if you have any interest in serving on the 2023-2024 PTA board.

Event Lead/Captain Sign-Up.  Thanks to everyone that has volunteered their time already!  We are still looking for a couple people to volunteer for various positions for the 2022-23 school year, including leads for a science night, and a co-lead for our upcoming baskets bonanza, and also have positions for next school year that require advance planning.  Please consider stepping up to make these initiatives happen.  More information here.
