    Early Release

This Wednesday, January 25th is an early release day. We will have no school on January 26th and 27th, as our teachers engage in reflection on the last quarter and professional development to support the rest of the school year.

    Salad Bar Returns

We are excited to announce that the Pine Spring Salad bar is back! This means that starting Tuesday, our Bobcats will have an opportunity each day to select healthy fruits, vegetables and proteins as part of our daily menu.
Please know that the first week often comes with issues like slower lunch lines as students begin a new routine. We will have adults stationed to support this new process and ensure that all students have time to eat lunch.

    Pine Spring Needs Your Feedback

To ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our families, we are looking for your feedback. Please consider taking a moment to complete this short survey. There is also an opportunity to participate in a focus group that will help drive our school community for the future.

    Kindergarten Registration

Children turning 5 on or before September 30 should be registered for kindergarten for the 2023-24 school year.

I know it seems early, but now is the time for students to be registered. We are planning playdates, screenings, orientation, and other gatherings for kindergarten students to get to know their teachers and each other over the summer. Register soon to make sure your child doesn't miss out!

Students should be registered at the school they will be attending. A boundary locator is available online, along with a list of required documents, and additional help for military families, families who need language assistance, and other forms of support.

If you know someone who needs this information, please forward this email or have them call Pine Spring Elementary at 571-226-4400 to schedule a time with Ms. Breeden.

We are currently anticipating Kindergarten Orientation in-person at Pine Spring on March 3rd. We will share additional information next week.

School Board Reviews Draft School Year Calendar Options

At their January 17 work session, the School Board discussed draft calendars that were created for the 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 school years. Draft calendars were developed using the following criteria as a framework:

    • Federal, state, and Virginia Department of Education guidance.
    • Superintendent’s priorities.
    • School Board input.
    • Student absentee data.
    • Staff absentee data.
    • Surrounding jurisdictions’ calendars.
    • Survey results.
    • Calendar Feedback Committee input.

You may view the draft calendars and other related documents in Boarddocs. The calendars will be presented as new business during the School Board meeting on Thursday, January 26. The Board is scheduled to vote on the calendars during their meeting on Thursday, February 9.
