In lieu of a Principal's Message this week, I wanted to take a moment to recognize and thank our fearless leader, Principal DeSmyter, for all that he does for Shrevewood E.S. as Virginia School Principal Appreciation Week comes to a close. Principal Desmyter goes above and beyond each day to make sure our staff, students, and families are safe and happy.  We are excited to kick off our Shrevewood Dance-a-Thon on 02/07/2023. Our goal is to raise $17,000 for flexible seating, field trips, staff appreciation events, and Positivity Project training and to strengthen our school community.
Our school has always relied on fundraising to provide exceptional opportunities to enhance student learning, and we need YOUR HELP registering your student(s) and sharing with friends and family.

We are grateful for our Shrevewood Elementary family! Thank you for your support this year.
We need coaches to support the Spring 2023 Girls on the Run (GOTR) Season at Shrevewood! At this time, we are just recruiting coaches. Participant registration for students in grades 3 through 6 will open in February. Practices will be on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Shrevewood, beginning March 7. The end-of-season 5K will be the weekend of May 20-21. To learn more about coaching visit the GOTR website or email Molly Sherlock.
As a reminder, Wednesday, January 25, is the last day of the quarter and a two-hour early release for students. Also, schools are closed for students on Thursday, January 26, for a staff development day and Friday, January 27, for a teacher workday. See the complete 2022-23 School Year Calendar.
A student transfer is valid for one year only. A parent or guardian must submit a renewal application each year for student transfer consideration. A renewal application may be submitted for students who continue to meet the same student transfer criteria as indicated on the original student transfer request. For students no longer meeting the same student transfer criteria, a new transfer request must be submitted.
All students will be considered eligible for student transfer renewal unless the principal indicates a student is not eligible for renewal or the transfer type does not allow for renewal e.g. graduating, moving from one level to another, or family relocation.
Letters from the principal will be automatically generated from the online student transfer application in February for students eligible and not eligible for renewal and sent to the enrolling parents primary email address.

The Magnet Program registration window will be open from Wednesday, March 1, through Wednesday, April 12, 2023. No late applications are accepted.

- Hunters Woods Elementary, February 13, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. - In-person
- Snow date: February 21, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
- Bailey’s Upper, February 15, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. - Virtual only
- Bailey’s Primary, February 16, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. - In person
- Snow date: February 23, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
Next week, our Positivity Project lessons in Morning Meeting will be focusing on Social Intelligence. You are aware of other people’s thoughts and feelings. You understand why they do things.
Questions that you can discuss with your child include:

- What can you do to be a better listener?

We will be recognizing and honoring our students' birthdays monthly. For the safety of all students and staff in our building and to limit the amount of classroom disruptions, please do not send in food or toys for your child's birthday.

As a reminder, school begins at 9:20 a.m. and ends at 4:05 p.m. Please notify us if your child will be absent or late to school. We will have an automated “call-out” at approximately 11:00 a.m. for students who were absent without prior notification. If you receive that call, please contact our office the next day.
