Hello Eagles! Today was an exciting week for Rising 9th Grade students! This past week, 8th graders learned about Fairfax High School elective courses. On January 18th, students met their Fairfax High School counselors, who presented to students about high school elective options. On January 20th, students attended the Fairfax High School Elective’s Fair in the KJMS Gym, where high school students provided information on different elective courses. With all this information, hopefully students have a better understanding of what elective courses they want to take next year.
On January 24th, all Eagles will have a lesson about next year. Rising 8th grade students (current 7th graders) will learn about elective and course options for 8th grade, and 8th grade students will be entering their 9th grade courses in Student SIS. 8th graders received a course selection form. Please work with your student to pick 7 courses and 3 alternate courses. On the back of the course selection form, please review the student expectations and parent requirements and sign the form. Students will begin meeting with their middle school counselors the week of January 30th. Course selection forms should be signed and filled out at this time.

All Eagles should think about their interests, strengths, and time commitments as they select classes for next year. There are resources on our website to help you select classes, see the links below. Current teachers can offer suggestions about Honors classes. Once entered in SIS, classes can be adjusted by logging into Student SIS and looking for Course Request. If families have questions about courses or the process, KJMS Counselors will meet with all students individually during January and February. Once locked in February, students can contact their counselor at KJMS or FHS if they want to make updates. Requesting a change in classes must be done before the end of this school year.

How to Talk With Your Child About Alcohol Safety
Stores have been packed with holiday savings, credit cards have been charged, and food has been consumed. Strategic Plan: Make Your Students’ Voice Count!
Strategic Planning is in process and will incorporate feedback from school staff, families, students, and community partners and organizations. Please encourage your students to participate in this unique opportunity to share their voices.
FCPS is currently seeking secondary students in grades 7-12 who are interested in participating in a Strategic Plan focus group. This focus group provides an opportunity to share feedback in a small group with other FCPS students and a trained facilitator. FCPS is hosting four virtual focus groups for secondary students in February and March:
February 9, 3:30-5 p.m. or 5:30-7 p.m.
March 16, 3:30-5 p.m. or 5:30-7 p.m.
Interested students should check their email for a form to sign up for the focus groups. Students will be asked to provide their student ID, so their parents/caregivers can be identified and contacted to ask for consent to participate.

The first 5 inclement weather days will continue to be traditional inclement weather days. Following that, FCPS will utilize flexibility provided by the General Assembly to have unscheduled virtual learning days, wherever possible. Virtual Learning on these days will be synchronous instruction following the Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Day Schedule which includes a 2-hour delay.
