Parking at Edison

Today, school administration learned that a staff member or coach erroneously sent information to families that student cars would be towed starting next Monday. We have also heard that some students received notices on their cars that may look like a citation.

School administration is currently reviewing our parking procedures and needs and will communicate well in advance if cars will be towed or if there are parking lot changes. Any text or email that you have received on this issue did not originate from from school administration.  Thank you for your support.

calendar

The end of the second quarter is Wednesday, January 25. Students have a two hour early release (12:55 PM) that day. It is a school holiday for students on Thursday, January 26 and Friday, January 27.

Return Period Schedule

This school year we implemented the "Return Period” schedule to give students an opportunity for remediation and/or enrichment in their classes. In December staff and students completed a voluntary survey, with 29% of our student population providing feedback. The administrative team and teacher leaders reviewed all the feedback. Since returning from the winter break, we have had numerous discussions as a leadership group and recently shared a proposal with the entire staff.  Staff and students who responded to the survey suggested:

  1. See teachers and students with more frequency.
  2. Build in FLEX time
  3. Have a return Advisory

We will adjust our return schedule based on the suggestions above and will share the change with students on Tuesday, January 24; the actual implementation or change will not occur until Monday, January 30.  We will post all information and calendars in Schoology for students and families starting on January 24.

This only applies to our 4th period (remediation block.) School will continue to start at 8:10 AM and end at 2:55 PM each day.

Parent University

Edison Student Services will be hosting a presentation for parents on Wednesday, January 25 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM in the Lecture Hall. They will be discussing course selection, the process for registering for classes, and applying to academy courses for grades 9-11 families.

This is a great opportunity to support your student as they choose their classes for next year.

Academy

Edison Academy invites you to attend their Open House event on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

You will have the opportunity to tour our state-of-the-art facilities in person, meet our instructors and current students, and learn more about our incredible courses!  Please enter at Door #13.

Reminders

After School Pickup on Monday and Thursday - Door 5

Monday and Thursday are late bus days, which allow students to stay after school for assistance in a class, make up a test, or participate in other student activities and still take the bus home. Just like in the morning, our buses need access to the front parking lot without car traffic blocking their way. The pickup area for students on late bus days is in the back of the school, at door 5. Students will be released to door 5 after their activities have ended.

Attendance

Please contact us no later than 9:30 AM for absences, early release requests or late arrival information. In particular, for an early release, you can help us help you by giving us time to get an electronic pass to the teacher before class has begun; once instruction has started, a teacher may not see a pass request within the time frame you need your student to be released.

The easiest way to request an absence, early release or late arrival is to send an email to EdisonAttendance@fcps.edu or use our attendance form here:  https://edisonhs.fcps.edu/EHS-Attendance. We still accept phone messages, but putting your request in writing is a more accurate and faster way for us to accommodate your request.

Strategic Plan

Parents:  Register Now to Attend a Community Forum

Strategic Planning is in process and will incorporate feedback from school staff, families, students, and community partners and organizations.

Check out the schedule of Community Forums and register for the one that is most convenient for you (Edison HS is hosting on February 6).  Community Forums will provide every resident an opportunity to participate in and influence the direction of FCPS’ Strategic Plan, prior to its completion and formal adoption by the School Board. Learn more about our strategic planning process.  Please register here:  Startegic Planning Forum Registration

Make Your Students' Voice Count

Please encourage your students to participate in this unique opportunity to share their voices.

FCPS is currently seeking secondary students in grades 7-12 who are interested in participating in a Strategic Plan focus group. This focus group provides an opportunity to share feedback in a small group with other FCPS students and a trained facilitator. FCPS is hosting four virtual focus groups for secondary students in February and March:

February 9, 3:30-5:00 PM or 5:30-7:00 PM

March 16, 3:30-5:00 PM or 5:30-7:30 PM

Interested students should check their email for a form to sign up for the focus groups. Students will be asked to provide their student ID, so their parents/caregivers can be identified and contacted to ask for consent to participate.

If you have any questions about the student focus groups or you would like to learn more about this opportunity, please contact strategicplan@fcps.edu.
