Congratulations to one of our amazing counselors, Joni Fraundorfer, who was recognized as the Outstanding Professional Employee in the Chantilly Pyramid.

Franklin Families and Students,

Good afternoon. I hope that you had an outstanding week.

There has been a lot going on at our school during the past several days! We had the opening weekend of our musical, Newsies, Jr. and our amazing cast had the chance to showcase their talents for a special guest when our Superintendent, Dr. Michelle Reid, came to the performance on Saturday evening. There were additional performances during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday so that every student at our school had the opportunity to see the show. There are three more performances this weekend and we would love to see you there. Bravo! to the cast of Newsies, Jr.

We also had an exciting Rising 7th Grade Curriculum Night on Wednesday evening where our school was full of future Falcons and their families. Our Rising 7th grade students had the chance to listen to a panel of student speakers, tour the school, and learn about our elective offerings. For our Rising 8th Grade students, we will be hosting a Virtual Town Hall on February 9 to support our students and their families during the transition from 7th grade to 8th grade.

Finally, we have some wonderful news to announce about one of our amazing staff members. We were able to share with our students today that one of our counselors, Ms. Joni Fraundorfer, has been selected as the Outstanding Professional Employee for the entire Chantilly Pyramid. She will now go on to compete with other pyramid winners from across the Region. This award recognizes the dedication, passion, and commitment to our students that Ms. Fraundorfer brings to our school every day. Congratulations!

Please feel free to reach out to me directly at dpwright@fcps.edu if there is anything we can do to support your student or your family.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

FCPS Strategic Plan

The Strategic Planning process is well underway, with the Community Forums beginning in less than three weeks. But, why do we need a new strategic plan?

Similar to a roadmap, a strategic plan clearly defines the best route for us to take in the years ahead to reach our goals. Our students are preparing for careers that don’t exist today. In order to keep pace with these needs, we need to rethink our plans for the future—and how we will best serve our students for this new era.

Visit our Strategic Planning webpage for the schedule of Community Forums. Register for the one that is most convenient for you and get more information on our exciting Strategic Planning process!

SIS Weekly Progress Reports

All parents/guardians of Middle School students who have registered for a SIS ParentVUE Account and have a primary email address recorded in SIS ParentVUE can receive Weekly Progress Reports via email. This report provides a summary of your student(s) grades for the current quarter. To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE Account and first verify that you have a primary email address within the system. It is listed under the “My Account” tab. If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports and click on update account. Once confirmed, parents/guardians are able to activate and select their preferences for receiving these reports within the SIS ParentVUE “My Account” tab.

Weekly progress reports for all of your Middle and High School students will be included in one email. For questions about a specific progress report or grade you can login into your SIS ParentVUE Account to find detailed grade book information. Additionally, your student’s teacher is always the best resource to answer any grade book questions that you may have. Weekly Progress Report Parent Quick Reference Guide

TalkingPoints

FCPS has recently approved the use of TalkingPoints, a two-way messaging app that allows parents and caregivers to communicate with teachers and schools. Carson staff members will be starting to use this service to help communicate to all of our families.  The app translates messages, so teachers can input messages in English, and parents can respond in their preferred language. TalkingPoints supports 125 languages, making it easier and faster for our FCPS families to connect with their schools. If you need to update your preferred correspondence language, please contact Kristine Smith. For more information, visit the FCPS TalkingPoints webpage

The After School Program will be closed on Wednesday, January 25 (an early release day). You can check out the schedule for next week here. 2022 Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions

Our school, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia Department of Education, is conducting the Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions. We will survey students in grades 7 and 8, classroom instructors and staff, beginning in winter 2023. The purpose of this survey is to measure student support, student engagement, school discipline, and safety conditions in each school. This information will be used to guide educational practices that produce a safe and supportive school environment.

Students participating in remote instruction and in-person instruction are both eligible to participate. The survey is voluntary, and your child can decide not to participate. No action will be taken against you, your child, or the school if your child does not participate. If you do not wish for your child to participate, please notify Jade Horne by January 23. Thank you for your cooperation in this important study of Virginia’s schools.

On Thursday, January 26, the Franklin MS Office will be closed from 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM so that staff members may attend training. The office will re-open at 11:00 AM. Thank you.
