Haycock Hello 1.16.23

MLK

Dear Haycock Families,

We honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today while we continue to endeavor to bring about the full realization of his dream. Students honored Dr. King's legacy in many ways this past week.

Thank you for the many cards, kind words, and treats last week for principal appreciation week.  The gift baskets from the PTA were lovely and so generous.  It is both a pleasure and an honor for us to serve the Haycock students and community.

It was great to see many parents on Friday at our Parent Coffee. The information we presented about the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener, the shift in math instruction, and the parent book study group is located here.  There were a few questions about the Second Step program that we use for SEL support.  Here is information that we shared at the first quarter Parent Coffee about this program which we purchased with our ESSER funding- Second Step

If you are interested in joining the parent book study group, please sign up by January 18th. Our parent liaison, Elizabeth Shoemaker, will be facilitating this group.  The group will be  reading and reviewing the book Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be written by Frank Bruni.  If you are interested, please sign up here.  We will purchase the book for all participants.

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal  embeaty@fcps.edu

Heather Boyd, AP  HABoyd@fcps.edu

Jody Delaney, AP jmdelaney@fcps.edu

McLean Pyramid Parent Information Night- 1/30

The Student Safety & Wellness Office has scheduled in-person Drug Education Nights for parents, guardians and youth caregivers across the division. This session is designed to inform parents of substance use trends, the opioid epidemic, and how to connect with resources. This session is planned for parents not based on the fact that this is a school, pyramid, or division specific concern, but that this continues to be a national concern. Please see this flyer for more information.

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. Please submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of Haycock staff members.

We are very excited about our new outdoor learning space which is still in production!  You might have seen it by the Kiss and Ride area.  Many thanks to Austin Gould and family. His work on this wonderful learning space is his Eagle Scout project.  Thank you to the Gould and Dunbar family for their support and contributions.
