Dear Parents, Staff, and Members of the Providence Elementary School Community:
As you are aware, your principal, Mr. Dan Phillips has been offered and accepted the position of Assistant to the Superintendent for the City of Fairfax Schools. We are so appreciative of Mr. Phillips’s years of dedicated service to Providence Elementary, the Fairfax Pyramid, and Region 5. We wish Mr. Phillips all the best personally and professionally as he begins this next chapter and will look forward to his continued connection to and collaboration with the Providence community in his new role.
We will begin the search for your next principal in the coming weeks. An important step in this procedure is to inform staff, students, and parents about the principal selection process. Therefore, all staff, students, and parents are invited to attend a virtual informational meeting on Thursday, January 19th at 5:30 p.m. We will be offering this session in English with simultaneous live interpretation in Spanish as we want to maximize the engagement of the Providence community in this very important endeavor.
The Providence Principal Advisory panel will be held virtually on Monday, February 13. If you are interested in serving as a panelist, please complete this form by Tuesday, January 31. Staff and community members selected to be a panelist or alternates for this panel will be contacted by the Human Resources Department overseeing this process.
Another critical component to the process is your written input. We invite you to offer your individual, written input (preferably via email) regarding the skills, experience, and leadership characteristics needed for Providence Elementary School. You might also address any challenges or issues that a new principal will need to address. Input is confidential and will not be discussed at the meeting. We welcome your input now, upon receipt of this letter, and are hopeful that many of you will share your thoughts. Below you will see suggestions for input and how you would submit it to the Department of Human Resources before Tuesday, January 31.
I look forward to working closely with Providence staff, students, parents, and community members as well as Mr. Jeff Platenberg, City of Fairfax Superintendent, during the principal selection process.
Sincerely,
Ms. Rebecca Baenig Assistant Superintendent, Region 5
