BRUINS ON TRACK
What a weekend!! Many of us are still recovering from a looong day at the Liberty Premier Meet this past Saturday. The Bruins Varsity Squad opened the meet with a great Boys 4x800 meter relay effort that landed them 2nd on the podium and gave them a golden ticket to the State Championship Meet this February!!
We achieved many PRs throughout the meet, and we became a part of Track and Field history as we witnessed Madison Whyte take down Athing Mu’s Meet Record in the girls 300 meter dash. Notable performances by Nelson Lattimer, Meba Henok and Timothy Asady-Khani in the 1000 meter run; Becca Duhan in the 1000 meter run; Michael Fulton in the 55 meter hurdles; Maya Daniels, Wylie Poist and Tim Ryan in the pole vault; Sophia and Oliva Wallace, our competitive sisters, in the 300 meter dash; Kevin Dermody and Danny Duhan in the 500 meter dash; and Madi Lewis who Regional Qualified in the 500 meter dash and came close to the state standard. Our girls and boys 4 x 400 meter relay squads also showed the crowd the Bruins are a force to be reckoned with.
The level of competition, meeting college coaches, bonding as a team – it made for an incredible experience overall and we are grateful to Ms. Pritchett, the Finance Team, and all of the parents, friends, and family who helped us to fundraise early on this season so that we could make this trip possible. We are also grateful to Coaches Sias, Coach Fedor, and our soon to be new Coach Graydon Lavalee, who ensured the meet ran well and that we all got home safely. Milkshakes were spilled, Coach Miller stole a slice of pizza, personal records broken, and Mikal Berhe and Claire Aponte closed down the meet with a great effort in the 3200 meter run. They tried to turn the lights off on their way out– I saw.
We now prepare for a big week with a JV Meet at TJMS, and an away meet for our Varsity Squad at the Virginia Showcase, the most competitive meet in the state of Virginia, where Lake Braddock’s Kate Murphy and Team set the record for the girl’s distance medley relay.
Thank you to all of the parents and coaches who are working to make this week our most successful yet! We have 6 athletes headed to the State Championship so far this year and we are not done yet!!!

Calling all Sneakerheads!!! Got Sneakers?? We Need them! Join in supporting the Lake Braddock Track Team by donating your old sneakers for recycling! We have partnered with a non-profit called Got Sneakers, to collect used sneakers and make a global impact. Did you know at least 200 million sneakers find their way into US landfills every year? Let's make a difference together and clean out those closets to make room for new kicks!
To help, please place your sneakers (we are not accepting shoes or sandals only sneakers) for donation in a bag and drop them off in the box in the Student Activities Office. Write your name on the list of donors with the number of pairs of sneakers you dropped off and you will be entered to win a prize!
