SAVE the DATE- PTA and PIZZA EVENT!

The Key Center PTA is planning their annual meeting.

Date:  Wednesday January 18th

Location: Key Center School Cafeteria

Time:The time for this evening meeting has not yet been finalized.  Yet, we wanted you to save the evening on your calendar so you can make plans to attend.  The event time will be released as soon as it has been set.

During this meeting, we will elect new PTA board members. A pizza dinner will be provided free of charge.  Additionally, there will be a raffle for a wonderful quilt handmade by Key Center parent, Berit Buontempo!

Emergency Preparedness Workshop for Students and Families

Ready Fairfax invites you to join us as we discuss local emergencies and natural disasters.

Participants will learn how to take steps to prepare themselves and those in their care to be resilient and prepared in the event of a crisis.  We will also discuss some special considerations to keep in mind for those with disabilities when creating an emergency plan and kit.

Community Travel Opportunity Offered by The Arc of Northern Virginia

Metro

 

This Friday, January 6th, join The Arc of Northern Virginia Tech for Independent Living team on a short, practice MetroRail trip. Leaving from and returning to the Dunn Loring station, individuals with disabilities (+ a designated adult) will learn basic travel skills and become more comfortable using the Metro.

SIBSHOPS: An Exciting, In-person Workshop for Brothers and Sisters of Children with Special Needs!

The Sibshop workshops are for children in grades 2-6 enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools who have siblings with special needs to:

  • Meet other siblings in a relaxed setting.
  • Celebrate the many contributions made by brothers and sisters of children with special needs.
  • Share sibling experiences and receive peer support.
  • Play games and have fun!

Thursday, January 26, 2023  9 a.m.- noon at Providence Community Center

Presented by FCPS School Social Work Services. There is only an in-person option.

School Picture Retake Day

Lifetouch will be at Key Center for picture retakes on January 11, 2023.  If your student missed picture day earlier in the fall, they will have a photo taken on this retake day.


Caregiver Training Offered through Virginia Office of Integrated Health

VA Depart

The Office of Integrated Health - Health Supports Network (OIH-HSN) at the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) offers training for caregivers of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Pre-registration is required for all training sessions. After registering a link will be sent which should be added to your calendar to show the alphabetical passcode needed to enter the training. Attendees of each OIH-HSN training session will receive a certificate of participation, and a .pdf copy of the PowerPoint presentation along with any other educational materials where applicable.  

Topics covered include:  VDH Special Needs Oral Health, Nutrition, Diabetes, Skin Integrity & Pressure Injuries, Transfers Training, Skilled Nursing- Private Duty Nursing, and Dysphagia & Modified Diets.
