Dear Haycock Families,
We had a good first week of 2023! As we continue through January, there are some state mandated tests that students have to take. Grades 3-6 will continue with the Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) tests in both reading and math. Your child's classroom teacher will let you know when that testing will take place. Many grade levels have already completed these assessments. Our 6th graders currently taking 7th grade math will take the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test (IAAT) on Jan. 17. Students do not need to do any preparation for either the VGA or the IAAT.
We hope you can join us for a parent coffee on Friday morning, January 13 at 9:30. We will share information about interpreting the results of the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener, discuss the shift in math instruction that is part of our school improvement plan, and answer any questions parents have. Friday's parent coffee will be in the library. Check in at the office first.
Thank you to the parents who joined us last Friday to assist with our school plans for celebrating Lunar New Year. We welcome parents to sign up to help Haycock celebrate the Lunar New Year between 1/23 and 2/3 using this Sign Up Genius Link. Please sign up by January 25th.
With appreciation for your partnership,
Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu
Heather Boyd, AP HABoyd@fcps.edu
Jody Delaney, AP jmdelaney@fcps.edu

This night will be full of information about Longfellow and the transition to middle school and is for rising 7th grade students and their parents. Core and elective teachers will highlight their exciting classes. There will be students and staff members to answer any questions you might have. The inclement weather date is Wednesday, January 18 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.
McLean Pyramid Parent Information Night- 1/30
The Student Safety & Wellness Office has scheduled in-person Drug Education Nights for parents, guardians and youth caregivers across the division. This session is designed to inform parents of substance use trends, the opioid epidemic, and how to connect with resources. This session is planned for parents not based on the fact that this is a school, pyramid, or division specific concern, but that this continues to be a national concern. Please see this flyer for more information.
The night will consist of a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist sharing information about drugs and how parents can support their children. School SROs/police detectives and Fairfax-Falls Church CSB managers will be present to present relevant information and to answer questions. For those who are unable to attend in-person, a virtual option is scheduled through the Parent Resource Center for 3/21/2023 where more language options will be made available for live attendees.
