We wish the Edison families a safe, restful, enjoyable two weeks. Teachers and counselors are also enjoying the break, and the office is closed to new registrations. We will have a small office staff working in the building from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM on most days.
We look forward to students and all staff members returning on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

Freshman Edison student, Vivian Weszelovszky, won second place in an essay contest from the Love of Country Foundation and the Fairfax County Public Library. She was presented with a check for $50 and a certificate that recognizes her "civic engagement and the high quality, creativity and communications ability" expressed in her essay, entitled "Why Vote?"

English teacher, Corinne Nuttall, passed her National Board Certification last weekend. The certification process requires that teachers demonstrate standards-based evidence of the positive effect they have on student learning in alignment with the Five Core Propositions. Corinne is now one of more than 125,000 teachers across the United States to have achieved Board certification. Congratulations!
Spanish Honor Society
On Thursday, December 8, the Spanish Honor Society held their Induction Ceremony in the Lecture Hall. Honor Society students pledge to promote the Spanish language and culture at school and in the community.
Erol Guleyupoglu, 12th grade IB and former Global STEM Challenges Program student, participated in a week-long quantum program at GMU over the summer. He was one of six presenters who invited to research and create a poster and have it displayed and published at the Inaugural Quantum World Congress held in DC last week. He was one of six presenters and met researchers from around the world.The topic of his poster was "Functional Neuroimaging". |

FCPS high school academies will hold open houses for interested students beginning in mid-January.
A high school academy is a center within a high school that offers advanced technical and specialized courses that can prepare students for postsecondary education and/or career fields. Students enrolling in Academy elective courses will be provided with opportunities to participate in a variety of career experiences including shadowing, mentoring, and/or internships with local businesses.

Standards-based Grading Committee
The SBG Committee of the PTSA has met several times, and we are looking for parent feedback on the grading system. Please take a minute to respond to our survey and let us know your thoughts.
