Best wishes for a wonderful Winter Break from the entire CRS staff!
Dear Churchill Road Families,
These past few weeks we have so enjoyed seeing students participate in musical concerts, spirit week, field trips, and today’s Winter parties! There have been a lot of smiles and laughter in the hallway as students and staff have shown their creativity over and over again!
We especially want to thank our incredible PTA for their generosity for this week’s Secret Snowman! The cookies and gifts are such a kind gesture to the staff during this time.
Before we begin our break, we are excited to recognize the following CRS teachers for the 2021-2022 FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards!
- Outstanding Teacher - Maryanne Hwang
- Outstanding New Teacher - Catherine Skehan
- Outstanding Operational Employee - Priscilla Chika
- Outstanding Professional Employee - Nick Kilpatrick
- Outstanding Leader - Jennifer Niccolls
We are so proud of their hard work and dedication they provide to our school and their students. Additionally, we had eight other teachers and staff receive nominations from the community and their colleagues. Please also congratulate the following individuals for their accomplishments: Sarah Aicher, Barbara Jackson, Jeff Kearns, Angie Kim, Sue Lackey, Megan Popelka, Tina Song and Sarah Williams.
As a reminder, to ensure students take a well-deserved break, no homework will be assigned over winter break. Also, no assignments will be due immediately following the break.
We trust the break offers you the best gift of all, time with one another.
We look forward to welcoming students back in the new year.
Warmly,
Jen Niccolls and Cherith Pierson-Barr

COVID Diagnostic Testing in January
Mark your calendars! COVID diagnostic testing will be available for FCPS teachers, staff, and students at five locations across the county January 3-5 from 5 to 8 p.m. This testing is for those who are either experiencing COVID symptoms or have been exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID. Appointments are not required, but registration must be completed before testing. Visit the COVID Testing webpage for more information.
Winter Recess Guidelines
During typical winter days, students will go outside during the winter months. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately (coat, boots, gloves, and hats) for outdoor weather. On PE days, students should have a pair of tennis shoes as well. Students may go outside if it is snowing.
How Cold is Too Cold to Allow Students to Play Outdoors?
- When the wind chill/”feels like” temperature is 25 degrees or higher, teachers are advised to take their students outside for recess. Teachers of younger grades may make adjustments to this temperature based on student attire and current weather conditions.
- When the wind chill/”feels like” temperature is between 20-25 degrees, teachers may use their professional judgment, based on students’ attire (jackets, snow pants, boots, gloves, and hats) and current weather conditions in determining if students will go outside for recess.
- When the wind chill/”feels like” temperature is below 20 degrees, or there is any rain/sleet, teachers are advised to keep their students inside for recess.
