Edison Academy Families,
As I shared last month, our Edison Academy students continue to amaze us. Here is one example. On Saturday, our Culinary Arts students brought holiday cheer to our community by assisting friends, family, and community members with some gingerbread fun. Students helped build gingerbread houses in a workshop that participants could take home to display during the holiday season. Everyone enjoyed hot cocoa and cookies after the workshop. Just a reminder that there is no school from Monday, December 19 through Monday, January 2. From our Edison Academy family to your family, we want to wish you a restful and relaxing winter break. We will see you in 2023.
Sincerely,
Monica Bentley, Academy Administrator
Right before the Thanksgiving holiday break the Cosmetology 2 students hosted their family members and staff from the Edison Academy for salon services to include hair color, cuts, eyebrow waxing, paraffin hand treatments, manicures, blowouts, buzz cuts, and more. This was all under the direction and supervision of their licensed, supervising instructor. To view photos from the day click here.
Students in Criminal Justice 2 had a visit by a DEA Agent and Forensic Chemist on November 18 where students were able to participate in mock forensic analysis activities to be “Forensic Chemists for a Day”.
Criminal Justice 1 students visited the DEA Museum to hear from DEA staff and to tour the museum where they took part in an activity to be “Junior Field Agents” to earn DEA badges and pins.
On December 2, Richard Fanelli, AIA, CFM, FMP, IFMA Fellow, with FMStudios and Troy Taylor, CRL, FMP, a Smithsonian Institution facility manager, both IFMA members, met with trades students at Edison High School Academy in Alexandria, VA to discuss the Facilities Management profession as a career option and to promote IFMA, Skills USA, and the Facilithon program. Grooming continues and we are still scheduling dog baths and nail trims! We provide baths, nail trims, ear cleanings and minor trimming (around the feet, face, rear end, sanitary trims). As the year progresses, we may also be able to offer basic haircuts (nothing breed specific). We groom on mostly Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment. Drop off is between 8:10-8:30 a.m. and pick up is between 1:45-2 p.m. If your dog is in need of a haircut, please take them to another grooming facility for the full cut and we would be a happy to do the in-between baths and trims. Cost range is $15-25 depending on type of dog and services needed. Email Karen Nestlerode at kenestlerode@fcps.edu with your dog's information or any questions.
Please contact the Edison Academy attendance office if your student will be absent or staying at the base school due to an altered schedule using the on-line attendance form or email EdisonAcademy.Attendance@fcps.edu.The student should email their Academy teacher.
