Kiss & Ride Reminder for K-6 Families

Thank you for keeping our students safe during drop off and pick up at Kiss & Ride.  Please remember to arrive after 8:35 am so that teachers and staff can safely access the parking lot and neighbors of the school will have minimal congestion as they leave to get to work (and/or take their children to daycare/school).  If you arrive prior to 8:35 am, we ask that you park and walk your child to the sidewalk once a staff member arrives at Kiss & Ride duty.

Resources for Families

FCPS’ Office of Family and School Partnerships would like to remind families of some of the many resources available:

-Bilingual community liaisons support student registrars by providing families with information about school and community services offered in Fairfax County. Liaisons are available to help families speaking Spanish, Korean, and Arabic. Once registered at a school, families can contact their family liaison for assistance.

-Early literacy programs are available to Fairfax County residents for parents of children up to 5 years old. These programs help prepare children for school and build confidence in parents as their child’s first teacher. They also help parents become active partners in their child’s education. Programs are available in African-Heritage, Arabic, Spanish, and Korean.

-Parent Information Phone Lines are available in eight languages for parents who speak languages other than English.

-A Multilingual Family Podcast is produced by the offices of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Family and School Partnerships, and Professional Learning and Equity. It covers important information for parents in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Korean.

-ESOL services are available in Fairfax County not only for students, but also for adults and families. Information on Spring classes will be posted in March 2023.

Visit the Family Engagement webpage for more resources.

Human Growth and Development Lessons (FLE)

Human Growth and Development Lessons in Grades 5 & 6 begin on Monday December 12th and in grade 4 on the 16th.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

Every year, absences increase in the weeks before and after winter break. Give your child the gift of education and help build a habit of attendance. Visit our website for more attendance resources.

COVID Diagnostic Testing in January

Mark your calendars! COVID diagnostic testing will be available for FCPS teachers, staff, and students at five locations across the county January 3-5 from 5 to 8 p.m. This testing is for those who are either experiencing COVID symptoms or have been exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID. Appointments are not required, but registration must be completed before testing. Visit the COVID Testing webpage for more information

Parent Advocacy Handbook Distribution

The Minority Student Achievement Oversight Committee (MSAOC) has created a Parent Advocacy Handbook to provide information and support to families as they navigate the FCPS system for their children. It is designed to be particularly useful for families who may be less familiar with such a large school division and/or with schooling in the U.S.

The MSAOC Parent Advocacy Handbooks is available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Korean at:  https://www.fcps.edu/parentadvocacyhandbook

When you grocery shop this weekend, please consider purchasing one of the MANY remaining items on the sign-up sheet and dropping them off at the Clearview office beginning Monday, Dec. 12.

  • 15 dozen cornbread, rolls, or biscuits
  • 1 large tub of sour cream
  • 3 packages of shredded cheese
  • 3 bag salads or veggie trays
  • 3 fruit, pasta, bean, or potato salad
  • 10 dozen nut-free cookies or brownies
  • 300 spoons
  • 300 forks

We also still need 11 crockpots of SOUP or CHILI. Drop off any crockpots or other perishable items between 8 and 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15. Be sure to label any containers you wish to get back; they will be available for pick up at the school office that Thursday afternoon or anytime that Friday.

We would also be grateful for ANY assistance you can provide with SET UP (at 10), SERVING (10:30-11:30 and 11:30-12:30), and CLEAN-UP (at 12:30). Thank you for supporting our super staff!

You asked and we’re going to make it happen! Watch for more details in January about how you can score an adorable Clearview winter hat.
