Tech Reminders
Do you need technical support with FCPS-issued devices or digital resources?
First, please note that your child’s teacher is the first point of contact should you have any questions about your child’s use of classroom technology. This includes issues with a password, access to assignments, or access to class-specific resources/platforms. If you need technical support beyond what the teacher can do (e.g. broken laptop, access to ParentVUE, etc.), you can also access the Technology Support for Families webpage on the main FCPS website, which is also linked from our Technical Support web page on the SCMS school website.
Please do not reach out to individual SCMS staff members other than your child’s teacher. It will only delay the process. Submitting a ticket is the fastest way to make sure that the issue is documented in the system, addressed by whomever is available and it reserves your place in queue. The Technology Support for Families page on the main FCPS website offers a wide range of technology troubleshooting and support information and it is available in other languages.
Would you like to monitor your child’s internet activity on their FCPS laptop?
The Lightspeed Parent Support is a free online service available to FCPS parents who want to know more about their child’s internet activity on any FCPS device. To find out more information about the service and how to sign up, check out the Lightspeed Parent Report Request page on the FCPS website.

Social/Emotional Check-in
During this change of season, it is normal to feel a change in your mood. Changes in your mood can sometimes be managed with the following strategies. These strategies are helpful for students and adults.
- Tracking your student’s mood can help you gain a greater understanding of shifts and changes in emotions. Keeping written track of and journaling about their moods may help students notice patterns in their mood shifts as well as potential triggers that might affect their mood.
- Exercise produces endorphins, which are hormones that help control stress and improve mood. Even moderate exercise can help relieve frequent or abrupt changes in mood.
- Maintaining a schedule can be helpful. Doing things at the same time every day can help regulate emotional highs and lows.
- Sleep can help improve mood. Sleep deprivation can affect appetite and energy levels. It can also contribute to sadness, irritability, and general lowness of mood.
- Nutrition is considered to be a vital component of mood management. Getting enough nutrients and avoiding the consumption of large amounts of sugar and caffeine may help reduce the frequency of mood swings
