Check out what our Atom's Coaches are saying about their programs! Each week our coaches will give a recap, provide a look ahead, or recognize a student-athlete.

BOYS BASKETBALL, Jerome McAvoy:

The Boys Basketball program had a much needed bye after 3 games in 4 days last week.  We went 2-1 beating Robinson and Bethel Academy.  We stayed busy this week raising more than $2,500 for our fundraiser campaign and started our community service project, Readers Are Leaders.  Readers are Leaders is a community service program where high students read to elementary school students. We have partnered with Braddock ES for this community service project.  We wrap up our week by traveling to Wakefield. Results will be posted on annandaleatoms.net!

Make sure to check us out next week as we travel to Lewis on Tuesday and host the defending state champion Hayfield Hawks in an early season test for the Atoms!

GYMNASTICS, Madison Morella:

Gymnastics took 4th this week at Monday’s meet, beating Mt. Vernon.  Isabella Cabrera increased her score on beam, Nevaeh Keramidas increased her score on vault, and Gigi Moquillaza and Kate Hanlen increased their scores on floor. Next Wednesday, the Atoms compete at Lake Braddock.

Outstanding performances include Freshmen Charlie McGinity (106), Isaac Cook (132), Austin Graham (132) and Sophomore Williams Contreras (285) all winning 2 matches. The JV looks to continue showing off their progress at HOME on Wednesday, 12/14 against Oakton and Wakefield and a team TBD.

The Varsity team split their matches against Alexandria City and Wakefield on 12/7. Wrestling against Alexandria City first, the Atoms won 46-26. Against host Wakefield the team lost 42-39, the team was lead by Sophomore Jordy Lopez-Funes (165) and Freshman Pascual Aguilar Rodriguez (157). Pascual was named GOAT of the week with a first period pin in his first ever varsity match. The team heads to Sherando HS in Winchester for seven matches in the Andrew Kenney Memorial Duals. Athletic Training Wrap

Our Athletic Trainers, Ryan Hughes and Kathy Ayers, work really hard behind the scenes of our Athletic events and they would like to share some tips and advice they give the student-athletes at Annandale High School everyday.

TIP OF THE WEEK

“Take a look at the wear and age of your shoes. Most foot problems are due to excessive wear and tear of your shoes or shoes being too old. Shoes that you wear every day should be replaced after 12 months.”
