Annandale HS Student Services Newsletter

Annandale Student Services

Dear Atom Nation,

First, we want to welcome our newest counselor, Ms. Ingrid Puna, who will be supporting students with last names CARS-GED. Ms. Puna graduated from George Mason University with a B.A. in Spanish and M.Ed. in School Counseling. Most recently she worked as a College Readiness and Student Success Specialist, and she completed her counseling internship with various Prince William County schools. We are excited for Ms. Puna to join our Student Services team!

Within the past couple of weeks, College Board released PSAT scores for the October exam. Students who completed the test should have received their score reports via the email address that they indicated on their PSAT answer sheet. Students should check their junk and spam folders for an email from College Board. Before winter break, students will also receive an email to their school email account from me. This email will include test scores and an Access Code, which can be used to access the full score report on the College Board website. From this score report, students can utilize a free SAT prep course through Khan Academy, based on their individual PSAT scores.

Over the next week, our counselors will be presenting the 2023-2024 course selection process to our students through W4. Counselors will be covering important information including the course options for next school year and the process for how to select their courses. Students should reach out to their counselor if they have any questions.

Director of Student Services

Early Online College - Spring Session: Early Online College (EOC) allows current high school juniors or seniors the opportunity to take up to two tuition-free college courses. EOC courses for the spring semester begin on January 31, 2023, and end on April 24, 2023. Courses are for college credit only. These courses were selected because they meet the requirements for most of NOVA’s associate degrees as well as being highly transferable as general education requirements for most colleges and universities. Completed applications are due by 5:00PM on December 31. Detailed information can be found at https://www.nvcc.edu/online-early-college. Please watch the recorded NOVA Information Session (Passcode: Xi7*axmj) to find out about the application process and eligibility requirements.

This event is for transitioning service members, military spouses, dependents, and veterans. It will include opportunities for summer hire for military dependents. The event will also touch on how to apply for the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program as well. See attached flier for more information and to register.

Transcript Requests for College Applications & Scholarships: Seniors need to request official high school transcripts ONE MONTH prior to application deadlines. Please take into account winter break. Students who have early January application deadlines should have submitted Transcript Requests before the end of November. The Student Services staff needs adequate time to process the large number of requests that we receive. For step-by-step instructions and forms for submitting Transcript Requests, go to the AHS College & Career Google site
